Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

I WILL RETURN YOU TO LIFE, Crayak promised, his enormous eye boring into what remained of Rachel's spirit. YOU WILL HAVE A NEW PURPOSE, AND A WAR TO FIGHT.

THAT IT WAS THE PLACE AND TIME YOU KNEW, THAT I CANNOT VOW.

Oh, no... that’s not the sort of bargain that one wants to make with the Crayak. This is fantastic, and I love it.

Fill: Garak & Quark, Dangerous Bargains

[personal profile] blackmare 2018-12-13 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
There were many things Quark thought he might do this morning, but standing here in a too-large suit in the Obsidian Order Tailoring Shop was absolutely not on that list. Garak makes him nervous on the best of days, and this? Is not the best of days. A Klingon crew has just docked and the bar is out of blood wine; half the dabo girls are in quarantine with a virus Bashir has never seen before; and now Garak.

Garak had slipped in before the place even opened, grabbed his sleeve while he was polishing the bar top, and: “I simply must know where you acquired this unusual brocade ensemble. It’s been years since I’ve seen this exquisite fabric. I’d bet you got quite the deal on this suit.”

“A good enough deal,” Quark said, leaning in, “that I chose not to ask where it came from.”

Garak ran his fingertip over the pattern, picking delicately at one of the silver threads that shot through the leafy motif. “A wise choice, most of the time. But I need you to come to the shop right now, and try on something new I just got in.” And Quark would have refused, if not for Garak giving him that look, the one that could freeze the lobes off a statue. “Before we go, pour me a plain soda water,” Garak said, “but ... very carefully, please.”

So now they’re here, in the back of the Murderous Spycraft Clothing Boutique, and Quark still has no idea what’s going on. “In just a moment, my dear fellow,” Garak soothes; Quark is distinctly un-soothed. The suit he’s in now, itches; his own beautiful new clothes are in a heap on the bare floor; and Garak has that glass of soda in his hand and a manic spark in his eye. “I’d advise you to stand clear,” he says, and moves away himself as he tosses the whole glass of soda water right onto Quark’s lovely new suit.

The massive burst of flames nearly knocks Quark on his ass.

In seconds, there’s nothing left. There’s not even much smoke; nothing but a pile of soot and a few scorched fragments of buttons and buckles.

“You see?” Garak says, turning to him with that creepy, knowing smile. “Somebody dressed you to kill.”

This is perfection. I've had a terrible day and you've improved it greatly by writing a perfect story about my two favourite non-Captain Star Trek characters.

This is wonderful!! I love the plot, and the characterization feels spot on, and the closing pun is truly excellent :-D

Edit: also great observation about Quark and Garak caring too much to quite fit in with their own people (even if “caring is subjective” lol)

Guess I forgot to tell you how much I loved this! And I totally agree that Garak cares too much to be a proper Cardassian. Not so sure about Quark, his sexism is pretty hard to take, although he does seem acceptable to women who can totally kick his ass.

This is great! Wonderful little vignette that really stands on its own and captures them well.

“Before we go, pour me a plain soda water,” Garak said, “but ... very carefully, please.”

Heh, I'm rather amused that he still lets Quark pour that drink himself.

"-take me away, right now!"

Jareth tensed, shocked, as the cry echoed in his mind, but quickly snapped his fingers and snatched Sarah away from the Above to his throne room, eyeing her carefully - she, more than most, understood the risks she took with such a foolhardy, open wish.

Sarah lifted her bowed and slightly bedraggled head and met his gaze squarely, though with one blacked eye.

[personal profile] candlesinthewell 2018-12-14 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, excellent. I expect Sarah is still more than a match for him, but I’m worried for her, because he’s right – she knows the costs of that kind of bargain, which means she must have a very good reason for it.

"I see that you're in need of assistance with what you call a 'boner' - I can help you with it," Venom said, peering openly down at the tent in Eddie's boxers. "I can do amazing things with my tongue you know."

Eddie leveled the symbiote a glare before, "No thanks, I can take care of it, in private."

Venom wiggled his tongue at him, chuckling as he said, "Silly Eddie, you have no privacy with me around."

Hah! That is a terrifying mental image, and I love it. That’s one hell of a downside to coexisting with an alien symbiotic... or is it?

Supernatural, Michael

[personal profile] tellshannon815 2019-01-07 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Dean's bargain with Michael was just one in a long line of dangerous bargains he and Sam had made over the years. Michael knew it well, had known from years of watching the brothers, that there was nothing either of them would not do to save the other.

Silly boy, Michael thinks as he reclaims the vessel once again, did he really think he could trust me to give him this body back for good, that I would never reclaim it to carry out my mission?

Fill: Hamlet

[personal profile] ernest 2019-01-30 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Deals with the devil are made with a crossed heart, but the trouble is that Hamlet does hope to die. Rather, as the hero of a tragedy he expects it, and wishes only to enact the revenge required before the end.

Except… not until he’s sure who did it…not while the usurper is praying… not when his mother could be a casualty of war… not at a funeral… not without exchanging forgiveness first.

Re: Fill: Hamlet

Oh man, I love this. Deals with the devil are made with a crossed heart Is a fantastic line, Hamlet’s resolve slipping into uncertainty as he recognizes costs and conditions was really well-done, and not without exchanging forgiveness first was particularly poignant.
