Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

Fair warning— it’s been over four years since I last played this game, so I was very much working off of my vague memories for this one. Also, I ended up going with three sentences per (featured) quadrant rather than three sentences overall.

Also, everyone is a troll now!

*

Red

She has never known anyone as pitiful as him: it’s like a scene straight out a movie, the way this terrifying-looking highblood looks at her, shy and sweet, and confides to her about the loneliness and prejudice he faces, and their romance only grows from there. It seems as though each time they meet, he shows her new facets of his wretchedness; his heart is as pathetic as his appearance is frightening, and she loves, loves, loves him for it. The more her roommates speak against him, the greater her fervor grows.

Black

Hearts nearly turn to spades, that night when he tries to take her soul from her. He tricked her — he tricked her! He played on her feelings of pity like a stringed music-making device; he made a mockery of all that a red romance is, and yet she is still drawn to him — for one brief instance upon awakening, she thinks that this must be what it is to hate with desire.

Pale

Except she also can’t stop thinking about that moment when she reached out to him as he stood before her — his eyes aglow, passionate in his violence, draining more of her soul from her body with each passing moment — and how, seconds before Potsdam intervened, she could have sworn that he stopped on his own, pacified by her outstretched hand.

Their next meeting confirms it: when she speaks to him, she no longer feels hate nor desire, but pity alone: pity, for this pathetic highblood who must use trickery rather than his power to gain what he needs; glorious, affectionate pity for this creature who will both show her his cruelty and refrain from it with a single touch of her hand.

She goes with him when he asks; of course she does, for who will — who could — know him or steady him as she does, if she does not?

this is amazing, i almost gave "quadrant-flipping" as the prompt, you nail their dynamic so well (a version of it, this being MD). I love everyone being a troll and the "stringed music-making device".

I love how you have her flipping quadrants as the game goes on, and how real her monologue reads. Love the story and the progression. It's inspired and so very, very true to the game. Each part also totally stands on its own, which is even better - each ending line reads like an ending, and each facet is complete.

Awesome, thank you so much!

When I saw your prompt, I was immediately struck by how well their romance (and especially the MC's reactions to Damien) actually translates to the quadrant system. I'm glad that you liked the result!

Your name is Mary Sue and you’re trying to be a good moirail, even though the concept is still kinda new to you, and your palemate really isn’t helping by constantly flipping red on you.

At least it’s not black, and that’s a relief; you can’t imagine trying to navigate those kind of feelings on top of everything else.

Months later you dance with him away from prying eyes and, oh, it is black alright, blacker than you ever thought you were capable of.
