caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

The best part of a new world, Sora thought, besides the breath-taking moment of first seeing it in the gummy ship, was how different each one was. Some had humans, some were full of talking animals, some were creepy or wet or cold or full of aliens--and Sora never knew what he was going to get from that first sight of the world. Easy, but impersonal, and they want - Venom wants - to tear his flesh open with their own teeth.

Jacobi stares at the ring in his hand, then starts to grin. The passersby who are staring probably think he's crazy or the worst kind of cheating asshole, but Maxwell knows that he knows she's hidden the data she just stole somewhere on her person - and she knows that there's no way the agents pursuing her will have time to board Jacobi's flight, with only ten minutes till boarding.

The Hephaestus pushed her beyond the limits of stress, and now, here on Isabel's long-promised beach, she can't process what it would be like to be stressed about being robbed, or the weather ruining their trip.

"I would have thought the lack of stress would be ... less stressful," she admits on the second day.

Isabel takes a gulp of coffee. "We could try scuba," she says. "Being surrounded by a lethal environment with only a suit and a limited supply of air might be almost nostalgic."

In order to fit everyone, they have to steal a bigger car. Timothy wonders for half a minute if they should feel bad if the fact that they're stealing something from someone else means he should try and offer something back to them.

Jack reminds him that, to the person they're taking it from, it's just a car, but to the five of them it's going to be a home.

Say'ri ends the song with some trepidation; her husky voice is not made for hymns, and Tiki's odd expression would have cut her off if she were not the type to always finish what she starts.

"As I guessed, it has changed over the millennia," Tiki says after a round of clapping. "But I am more struck that it remains at all."

Old myths never die, they just adapt. They march ever onward, changing shape but no, they do not die.

The SIrens slipped into the modern world unnoticed, singing sweet songs into cell phones and calling forth the men, the women and everyone else who they wanted with the push of a button.

So be careful, sweet one, be careful when you pick up the phone for you never know who might be on the other end.

Elfangor can't stop looking at all the cars. There were trains on the Andalite homeworld, if you had to transport cargo, but personal vehicles like this "Mustang", built to simulate the speed and power of running without motion are utterly alien. His first engineering task on Earth is to learn how to hotwire a car, piecing outdated human parts together while Loren keeps watch, taking the place of his stalk eyes.
