caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

Outside the door, silent servants have laid out the things you’ll wear tonight: Puzzle Damask and Parabola linen, burnished brass jewelry and a mask for the masque; dressed like that, it’s easy to believe you could become someone else, well rid of sorrow – the kind of person, you’d have said once, who dances with devils and gets away free, but in the end, there’s no one who does that and doesn’t pay.

Jack knew better than to bring the Hon. Miss Fisher along on a stakeout but he didn't really have a choice this time; his suspect had been frequenting a shop where no policeman could possibly enter without being conspicuous.

"Are you sure you really want to go in there?" he asked from the driver's seat of her Hispano-Suiza, temporarily taking over Mr. Butler's position as chauffeur.

"It's only a lingerie shop, Jack," Phryne answered breezily as she stepped onto the pavement, a lumpy, velvet reticule swinging slightly from her delicate wrist as she leaned against the car door with a mischievous smile, "and I'm sure I can handle whatever situation your little thief throws my way, with or without my pistol."

From the bridge of the V/S Þor, Árni has seen so many boats by now; from the big cruiseliners that barely notice the waves to tiny open dinghys beating their spray-soaked way west across the ocean, navigating by hope and rumour, desperate for sanctuary.

"ICELAND IS UNDER QUARANTINE - PLEASE TURN YOUR VESSEL AROUND - WE WILL OPEN FIRE - ICELAND IS UNDER QUARANTINE - PLEASE TURN YOUR VESSEL AROUND - WE WILL OPEN FIRE - ICELAND IS UNDER QUARANTINE…"

At least some of them seem to hear him, fewer still believe him and turn back to a dark ocean and the dying world beyond.

Winter Missions

I hate ice, I hate snow, Clint sang under his breath as he climbed the icy tumble of fallen concrete, contemplating whether the next line - bitching about SHIELD - should rhyme or not

Clint smothered a laugh, glancing sideways at his partner as Natasha fixed a look at least as icy as their surroundings on the poor agent who had just unwisely objected to her bitching.

She leaned in very close and the man quailed back. "I am Russian; you do not know what it is to hate ice until you live in Russia." Natasha said dryly, then lifted her head and reached up to take Clint's waiting hand, using him as a handhold to spring up more than accepting a pull upwards.

Sometimes Julius felt like 1936 was only yesterday, like everything that he had done in all those decades since that last time he'd stepped into the ring was just a fever dream brought on by getting his bell rung too hard one too many times and any moment now he would wake up back in 1936, punch drunk and still too broke to pay for Mama's hospital stay but secure in the knowledge that the only blood he'd ever had in his mouth had been what trickled in from his own injuries. Other times he felt every single day and every unforgivable sin of those eighty four years weighing down on him, and days like today, standing in the Twentieth Century History section of the Denver Safe Zone's public library and staring at all those shelves full of books about all the things that he'd let pass him by while he'd been busy being a monster, were the kind of days when he felt that the most. With a deep breath, Julius reached out and started picking books with promising looking titles off of the shelf, paging through them, putting some back and keeping others, until he had collected a few that looked like they could give him a good general overview of what he'd missed, and he wondered if maybe the library had any good histories of boxing in its sports section so he could use one of his 'four books checked out at a time' limit to get caught up on the fun stuff along with everything else.

Persephone merely arched a brow, smote another mortal man with a curse well-earned, and returned to her mother's arms; those warm, loving arms that had cast the entire world into barren ice to die in her wrath at being denied aid for her missing daughter.

Persephone was Queen of the Underworld, but she was her mother's daughter above all.
