Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

Hadestown, Demeter + Hades/Persephone

[personal profile] acequeenking 2019-01-29 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Demeter pauses as she gathers her gardening implements, feeling a subtle shift in the wind; the winter winds are blowing.

She isn't alarmed by that prospect until she realizes the source of it, her brother with his hat tossed over rapidly wilting sunflowers and his coat annihilating her prize cabbages with underworld frost; her daughter's dress tossed up into a tree like a sort of forbidden fruit.

Mother Nature puts her hands on her hips and clears her throat, not that any of them notice it; it takes her shout of "Seriously, in my garden?" before either of them looks up, and much to her chagrin, her younger brother doesn't even have the integrity to be embarrassed by this.

I'm so happy, this is absolutely perfect. I love that Hades isn't embarrassed to be found out like that!

Fill: Hamlet

[personal profile] ernest 2019-01-30 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Deals with the devil are made with a crossed heart, but the trouble is that Hamlet does hope to die. Rather, as the hero of a tragedy he expects it, and wishes only to enact the revenge required before the end.

Except… not until he’s sure who did it…not while the usurper is praying… not when his mother could be a casualty of war… not at a funeral… not without exchanging forgiveness first.

OMG I only just saw this and it's fabulous! Alberta for once is acting like a caring mother. And of course she'd mistake the topic of hips for something that would be more appropriate for a boy of Eustace's age.

Oh man, I love this. Deals with the devil are made with a crossed heart Is a fantastic line, Hamlet’s resolve slipping into uncertainty as he recognizes costs and conditions was really well-done, and not without exchanging forgiveness first was particularly poignant.

The aftermath of the Chitauri attack was bad — that didn’t really need saying as anyone could see that, from the leveled city blocks to the hospitals filled with the injured to the sadly overflowing morgues — but the thing that really gripped Steve was how much it reminded him, going seventy years on, of the horrors he’d seen back in the war.

It was hard the first few days to think about how little things had really changed, how much destruction and pain there still was in the world, how it sometimes seemed like there would never be another spot of good, but then he started to notice other things, things that he’d seen back in the war but had forgotten for their normality: people were helping each other, donating time and energy and money into recovery and rebuilding and ensuring that despite everything, New York still stood strong.

Steve’s heart hurt a little — happiness this time, not the anger and grief that had come so easily to him at the beginning, had always come so easily if he was being honest — as he saw in every helping hand that beauty really could come out of the ashes of something so terrible.

(Don't mind me wandering through after the fact la di da....)

While perhaps it was hard to understand how it had come to this, the twins at a safe distance, Lup mostly cackling and Taako mostly fuming, as Magnus had managed to set a whole tree ablaze and Merle stood sopping wet with the divine water meant to put it out, but really it was all inevitable. There is one constant in this universe, in any universe the red robes have traveled to, and that is that the twins will always get bored. Their competitive streak would not be satiated by baking against each other forever, and well... perhaps they were not as good at coaching as they were at baking.

[Miraculous Ladybug] pounce

[personal profile] alexseanchai 2019-06-04 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Adrien isn't in the locker room: Marinette opens her locker, deposits her backpack, closes her lock—

"AAAA!" shrieks Marinette, remembering only just in time to flail backwards instead of slamming him into the wall; trying not to use Ladybug reflexes on this particular fragile civilian wouldn't be a problem if she ever saw him coming.

Adrien smiles, the gentle and sincere look that always makes her heart melt, and asks about her lit essay.

She doesn't see Adrien in the locker room: Marinette opens her locker, deposits her backpack, closes her—she shrieks, twisting his arm behind his back and shoving his face into the wall: it's exactly the reaction he expects and hopes for, and they both like it better than what he used to get from her.

Marinette paints an unimpressed expression on her face and lets Adrien up to catch the breath she just knocked out of him: "Don't play with your food, kitty," she tells him, quiet enough no one will overhear.

Adrien, grinning brightly, replies "You wouldn't deprrrive me of my fun, would you?" and Marinette rolls her eyes and—to give herself an excuse for this elevated heart rate—drags him down for a kiss.

“What are you wearing?” cries Janine, when Claudia comes downstairs in white jodhpur-style pants, tall cream boots, a dove-grey fringed faux-leather jacket and a cream silk blouse, paired with earrings shaped like horseshoes; she’s impressed with her own restraint in keeping to neutrals.

“I - I - it’s an outfit I made,” says Claudia; all her pride in her clothes has crumbled, because of course Janine’s going to think it looks too weird for the first day of high school - or, as she would put it, “inappropriate attire for one’s first impression at an educational institution”.

“That blouse looks tailored; I didn’t know you could sew so precisely,” says Janine, quietly, with something like respect in her eyes.
