Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

Wow. This paints such a vivid picture of Erik. Brutal and gorgeous - I love the rhythm of the words.

Love this! Really cute - good for Grukk!

(Sorry for being a bit late, I didn't see this until right now!)

Be careful with what you get Sora, you don't want to save the worlds while you are sick, do you? (though the mental image of Donald and Goofy taking care of Sora is way too adorable...then again, I love everything with SDG because it's my favorite trio) Also, thanks to your icon, I like to think this is set sometime during KH1.

(You're fine! It's hard to keep of anon comments on DW because you don't get email notifications about them)

Sora, Donald, and Goofy's friendship is one of the most adorable parts of KH. I just love how much they support each other and care about one another. I bet they'd take amazing care of Sora if he gave himself some sort of terrible upset stomach from eating random space fruit XD

This is gorgeous and heart-rending, especially the little details in each ficlet — Laura, the petals, the tea party — and oh most especially Susan wanting to wrench open the coffins and demand something more than that last brief, ordinary goodbye. There are tears in my eyes, this is so well done. Thank you.

Are you kidding? This is perfectly perfect! It’s exactly what I meant and didn’t say, because no matter how accustomed one becomes to grief settling in the soul, you can never, ever get used to saying goodbye — and no goodbye is ever, ever enough. Maybe it’s the flip side of the same coin, because whether Susan gets the chance to say the words or bot, she still feels cheated, still faces that same emptiness. Ruth is right, I love all the Susan feels, and I’m still teary-eyed. thank you again.

Re: PART TWO; Because I can salvage this, I swear.

[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake 2019-01-12 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I love this. To be clear: no salvaging was necessary, but I and SO glad you wrote MORE! Full disclosure: I’ve been mostly missing from 3SF for a week or so because a dear old friend passed away. And I’m only just seeing your lovely fills now, and I’m sorry for that! Because it feels like, with both of these, you’ve reached into my heart and written all the things I can’t find the words for. So I’ll be back later to rave over the lovely language and perfect character notes and achingly real details later. Because I definitely need to revisit both of these — thank you again.

Oh, I'm glad you liked it. Sometimes I think it's the little details that really bring a story to life, so it's good to hear you liked the ones I put here.

Oof, this is lovely! Bittersweet - with a little emphasis on the bitter and relatable (we all wanted that match for them, too, I think!).

"Nah, I know how to read the signs of when Job's in it for the long haul, Sugar too these days, and I'm staying as far away from getting in between those two as possible."

LOL, it’s so cute when he pretends he’s developed a sense of self-preservation, and I can totally hear Job and Sugar sniping through the background. Thanks for the fill! <3

The blood of Gorgons writhed in her veins, so no mortal could ever look away from her. The blood of ancient sirens sang in her veins, so no mortal could ever refuse her call. But this — the sailor’s blood pulsing in his veins, throbbing in tune with the crashing waves and her own ragged breath — this was hers, and hers alone.

It was amazing how many things came in pairs on this world, mused Ford. He could take or leave peanut butter or jelly on their own, but he still had a PB&J smushed in his rolled-up towel (things had gone much easier once he added bread to the equation — how could he have known the B was silent?); on the other hand, he had never found anything particularly amusing about laurels or general hardiness, but there must be something about Earth humor that he had yet to learn. He was fairly certain he had mastered the gin and tonic, but a little extra practice couldn’t hurt.

Belated Merry Christmas

[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake 2019-01-13 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
“There are stars in your eyes,” he murmured and Mia snorted into her champagne.
“That’s from the lights on our Charlie Brown Christmas tree,” she laughed, “all eight of them. Next year I pick out the tree and I string the lights.”
And Sebastian’s heart swelled, because he already couldn’t wait for next year, yet the same time he wasn’t ready for this one to end. He should tell her that, he knew. “It’s not such a bad little tree,” he quoted instead.
Mia rolled her eyes even as she snuggled into his shoulder. “Good thing you had enough ornaments to fill all the holes in the branches.”
And he wasn’t going to think about whether that was a metaphor for their relationship, or how the radio was mangling the Vince Guiraldi Trio’s music. He was going to continue delivering corny lines until Mia either burst out laughing or kissed him to make him shut up. After all, wasn’t that what Christmas was all about?

Once Ariadne’s led him out into the cold light of day she sees that the man’s face is a puzzle. His mind has darker turns than the labyrinth itself, and he may have genuinely loved her in the shadows – or thought he did – but she knows when something’s gone.

She left Theseus first, no matter what the stories say.

I like the sense of how creepy and detached Theseus is here, and how Ariadne straight up nopes out of that. Good choice, girl!
