Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

"salvage", they say

sorry, honey, I still don't want any of these emotions

were Susan and Grace at least happy queers in between these bits?

TAZ Amnesty, Dani/Aubrey

Dani keeps glancing her way as if to make sure she’s still paying attention and every time she does, Aubrey’s cheeks burn.

Of all the non-exact comparisons, Sylvans perhaps come the closest to vampires, which are called the cold ones in all the mythology Aubrey knows, but when they hold hands, Dani’s skin is always warm.

One night when they’re the only ones left in the lobby, Dani kisses her on the cheek and a fireball flies up the chimney; the next one is on the lips and lets all thoughts cease so the blaze settles to a safe and reasonable level.

Sorry, no refunds.

THEY WERE THE HAPPIEST, I PROMISE. They just grew old and died of old age; they had normal, fulfilling lives, and Grace helped reconcile her feelings with the memories of Narnia so they totally both got to visit Narnia, show up everybody but Lucy (who always knew Susan would come back to them; Lucy is faithful, always), and then cruise into heaven looking like the fabulous queens they were.

Whatever the Hunger takes is never coming back, or if it does, it will be unrecognizable, so maybe it’s better to hope everything is gone for good. When even winning means previously unimaginable destruction it can be hard to keep going – and some years one of them *will* just give in to the hopelessness and try again next time – but they keep coming back to try again, and not just because they don’t have a choice.

Whatever it takes, their answer is to give.

Inception, Eames

[personal profile] ernest 2019-01-02 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Eames plays many roles, and they’re all him but all a bit of something else too – so maybe it makes him seem a bit insincere, but he can live with that.

An architect may be able to leave blank spaces for the dreamer to fill in, but *he* has to know exactly what he’s making and who to become. He can laugh all the way down the levels of the subconscious, and once there stay in control of every motion.

I can’t help all the hell that I’m raising (TGP, Eleanor/Chidi/Tahani)

[personal profile] possibilityleft 2019-01-02 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Tahani's lip curled up as if Eleanor had suggested she shop at Target rather than join her on the bed; she turned to meet Chidi's gaze and they shared a silent look that Eleanor knew meant she was in trouble (how she hated that look).

"It's song lyrics, that's all, it's not my fault that you two haven't glanced at any pop culture produced in the last two hundred years!" she protested.

Chidi shook his head but sat down on the edge of the bed, and Eleanor knew she had him then -- it was enough of a commitment for her to grab his hand and kiss him, reaching out for Tahani behind his back.

we not only carry a future ghost (Star Wars, Chewbacca gen)

[personal profile] possibilityleft 2019-01-02 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Chewbacca probably spends more time on ships nowadays than he does on planets, and he's never learned to like it, but at least the Millennium Falcon is familiar -- he knows what doorways to duck and where Han hides the good snacks.

On the Death Star though he can't help but feel completely and utterly exposed -- even if no one gives them a second glance and the hallways stretch up and out forever, the whole place just feels dead, like he could turn a corner and never see a sentient being again.

If he dies here, he'll be unceremoniously dumped into space, and he'll never feel solid ground beneath his feet again; perhaps his spirit will wander these halls forever -- so is it any wonder that the thought makes him shiver?

You made me want to weep for Susan in both parts, but at least she did experience something other than emptiness if only for a little while.

I promise, she did get to live a mostly normal, happy life until she and Grace died of old age. It wasn't all sadness and gloom; most of her days, especially after she met Grace, were happy ones. They did get to live to be old ladies and even got legally married, so there's decades there.

It's just, the theme wanted me to keep mostly on point. I think I owe these guys at least a happy sequel at this point.

There are many things Steve regrets in his life — not fast enough, not strong enough, not there for the people who needed him most — but this was one thing he didn’t think he’d end up regretting because it had been the one thing since coming out of the ice that had made him the happiest, made him feel the most moored in a world he sometimes had a hard time fitting into.

And then he looked at Brock — no, Rumlow, now — looked in his eyes and saw how differently they’d been seeing their relationship; he’d been seeing forever, been seeing his happiness without noticing where it came from, and Rumlow had apparently only been seeing a mark, an opportunity to pull the wool over Steve’s eyes in the most intimate of ways.

It hurt to fight when the betrayal was so fresh and all his mind could do was play the good memories when he tried to figure out how Hydra had dug its claws in so thoroughly when he thought he’d burned them out decades ago — and maybe that’s what hurts the most, that everything he’d known and believed was a lie and all he had was one more regret to add on top of the others.

She is a god and the daughter of gods, but also a girl of flesh and bone and blood and ideals; she is the focal point of the concentrated power of belief, as well as the living warmth of the dark earth.

So when her uncle steps into her garden he steps into her space and her selfhood in a way, and of course she can’t help peering at him from her extremely well-hidden bower, how he swirls the very air into a dark cloak to mark his presence and how it’s absolutely compelling.

He keeps visiting and she keeps watching, until the day she makes herself known, until the day she compels him to beg, until the day he takes her in her own garden and she cries out in the exquisite ecstasy of pain and wonder.

'tis but a dream...

[personal profile] autumnia 2019-01-03 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
It was Scrubb who had forgotten first as the scientist and adventurer in him delighted to be studying live jewels that tasted sweet and fire-bright and quenched all manners of thirst. For the longest time (or so she thought), Jill had been resentful that one misstep upon a pebble at the edge of the chasm had caused the two of them to fall down to Bism, away from Rilian and Puddleglum, Narnia and Aslan, and of going home.

As she bit into the sparkling sapphire Golg put into her hand, Jill looked past the stream of smoke from a salamander's breath to the orchard of living jewels and wondered why she was just thinking about those mythical places in the Overland she had recently dreamt of.

Their argument had somehow turned into this: Jake pressing Nate up against the wall of the recently emptied training room, bodies pressed together as they worked through their mutual frustration via lips and hips and wandering hands. It wasn’t a position Jake had thought of much before even though he probably should have — something about pent up anger and sexual tension and all the years between them was a heady mix, apparently.

Sometimes Jake felt like his life was nothing but a series of stupid decisions (and he was pretty sure Nate would agree with him on that) but he can’t decide if this is another one or the best decision he’s ever made — not that he has the time for thought now anyway, with Nate groaning into his mouth in a way that has every thought flying away into nothing but heat and want.

Oooh! I wonder if the forgetting is related to the way the Pevensies' memories of England seemed to blur during the Golden Age? Or is it more a general property of Bism and other Underland realms that the surface world begins to seem like an improbable dream?

I like to think that the living jewels have magical properties and one side effect of Overlanders eating them is that they forget where they came from.

Ironically, it's exactly what the Lady of the Green Kirtle wanted but she doesn't get to see it happen. :-)

Ooh, I like how alluring Hades seems here, and how Persephone is the one spying on him when he comes to spy on her! Very nice.
