Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

LOL. With Marshwiggles, it's hard to tell if they'd take offense or rather enjoy the insult. And I doubt Eustace would ask a Centaur this type of question (man or horse?)...

HEE! Probably somewhere in the middle, and enjoy having something to be offended about?
Yeah, I can't imagine Eustace asking a centaur that - even something like "how did a man and a horse come to become one creature?" would get him an Unimpressed Response, I'm sure.

At the very height of summer she becomes a storm, clouds rolling in so suddenly they seem to have always been there, and a world plunged into darkness. Some things will certainly die, and the crops and creatures too small to run will be delivered to her husband as a reminder that she still thinks of him.

When she was a newlywed the seasons were neatly divided like the heart that had to be sectioned off to survive, but the longer she is Our Lady of the Upside Down, the more she allows those petty distinctions to blur.

Caleb managed risk, so it was his job to know the numbers, to memorize statistics on necromantic earths and demonic incursions and assess the likelihood of one cascading apocalypse-like into the other.

Risks without numbers were harder to manage -- and he could find the numbers, sure, if he wanted a deep dive into divorce rates between deathless and non-deathless partners and the reported work/life balance of God Wars veterans -- but that wasn't his job anymore. He took a chance because he wanted to, and because (even if he'd never say as much to Kopil) he believed.

Aahhh, I have lots of feelings! Here's a few of them:
- Jadis! I love her a lot and she's creepy but also fun to sympathize with. I wrote about 16K words of an overview of her life that I occasionally come back to and try to finish. (I was much younger when I started it so some of my social analysis leaves Much to be desired. And I still haven't figured out how to structure longer stories. Still, I had fun)
- girl!Edmund is probably the most important thing that came out of the TSF, and there were a few years where *everyone* was writing her
- Edmund and Ginny are best friends and bond about having been used as weapons or keys when they were just children
- I love all the meta about Narnia and what it must be like to go back to being a child, and worse, what it's like to return to a place you thought was lost for good
- There was one year when I wrote a lot of Jill/Eustace!

Oh goodness, I love that! It makes a lot of sense, too, and I might end up writing a little fic about it, so watch this space!

Existence has felt fuzzy for a time now. The multiverse can make do without Her light, it seems--but in that infinitesimal moment before she fades, forever, a whisper carried on half a breath catches her ears:

"O Dawnflower, O Everlight, " says a little, tiny gnome, almost comically small as she stands hunched over a bloody, broken goliath, "Help us, please."

Ekaterin sighed, "if only there was a virtual garden program for pre-testing dinner party guest lists."

Lady Alys looked aghast. "My dear, you cannot possibly think I arrange Gregor's guests by hand; no, no, no, show me your comconsole, you cannot organize anything by happenstance."

This so intimate, and aching; such an evocative moment of connection. I like physicality of it, the way Matt's 'solid warm' conjures up an opposite - cool or even chill surroundings - and his inquiring noise more felt than heard, the way it supports a kind of sacred space, encouraging without breaking the sense of nonjudgmental, confidential confessional available for his friend however long she chooses to continue. The click of Karen's nail against the beer bottle (glass?), their earlier relaxation against its neck echoing Karen's relaxation against Matt.

The way all of this adds up to trust, and Karen being in the driver's seat, so to speak, even with Matt positioned to take her weight and support it. The clear sense of him listening so closely, taking in the weight of her words and her feelings and likewise supporting them.

I've only seen a few episodes of the first season of Daredevil, so I don't know if that reference to Elise from Accounting signifies a particular job and temporal mark of when this is relative to canon, but I love the pacing of Karen's story hear, the meandering digression and back about the paychecks, the way you take my prompt and turn it into Elise's phrasing to spark off Karen's history and catch into cathartic tears and laughter. I really like how Karen breaks down why it caught her so, the way she owns her pain and sadness and refuses to let anymore if herself be lost even if they are of a place of tears.

This is a gem of a gift, and I glow with it: thank you.
