caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

"Cool it, Sparky," Toph interrupted, sticking out one hand to stop him as he moved past her, "you're showing an important Earth Kingdom visitor around. You never know," she added, snorting and lifting her jaw, "I might be very offended if you refuse to see to it personally."

Zuko was silent for a moment, standing beside her, then laughed, clasping her hand to draw her out of her chair and up to her feet; Toph let him without offense, being as it was him. "Of course you're right, Lady Bei Fong," he said dryly, slipping away just a beat too quick to be caught as Toph punched towards him, "where would you like to go first?"

Thanks, glad the dynamic little moment read well! I think it's not uncommon perhaps to discount Ares as muscle and bloodthirst but he's definitely not slow, either. >.> And I kind of love the House of War/family/team. They're interesting to ponder.

Mundane

Peter cringes as his siblings all return from school for the holidays; the by turns dull and determined look in his brother's eyes has grown familiar - disgust that he cannot put right all the ills he finds, and determination that one day he shall at least put right some of them, even here - but his sisters. . .

Susan, who was ever quiet and controlled when she needed, and grew - in that other life - into even greater strength and hidden edges, she is uneasy and pained, but finding her footing once more, as she has always done with grace and unerring knowledge of herself. Lucy . . . Lucy who had never - and Peter hoped would never - learned to quiet or dim herself for anything, returns now with sharp pain and tears she will not shed in her eyes, where Peter was used to seeing fire and the bright love she offered to all.

"Winter's worst approaches," says Edmund, "and it will seem always winter, never Christmas." (This particular tradition is largely his design, since after a hundred years with no Christmas nobody knew what to do that was Narnian rather than borrowed wholesale from Archenland, though he is not entirely sure how he got stuck with designing it. He did not engineer it to give the third voice and the green candle to the Narnian—which, when the light-bringers are the four Pevensies, is always himself—who feels themselves to have the greatest apology to make from the past year: absolutely not, how dare you accuse him of such conniving behavior.)

"But spring will follow winter," says Lucy, voted bravest, "and Christmastime is here." She touches the flame to the red candle's wick, and then the white.

There is a fifth speaking part, but it generally falls to the first speaker as the fifth candle does to the fourth speaker, since Aslan so rarely attends these gatherings: "Joy to us all," says Peter.

(Helen's children do not shut her out of this moment, but she listens from the kitchen, watching the flicker of five candles in the darkened house, and wonders once again why they so often seem so far away.)

Being Devoured (Teen Wolf)

Ohh, no, Stiles thought, and dove, throwing the book he held as a distraction - bless one of the few sensible people in his school; the other boy bolted as soon as the wolf's attention shifted - and shoving his free hand into his backpack in search of the mountain ash.

"Oh no," Stiles said, shaking his head and backing up as quickly as he could, meeting bright eyes as the wolf turned towards him, "I am not on the menu either, I am not on the menu-" his screech cut off breathlessly as he hit the ground and he flinched-

"Ew." Stiles said, slightly stunned, as a wolfy tongue dragged industriously over his face. "Oh man, dude, Derek, not that this isn't better than being eaten but this is going to be so embarrassing for both of us - mostly me - when you remember, like, higher brain functions."

The Problem of Evil -- Narnia; Eustace Scrubb

Harold and Alberta didn’t hold with religion at all and the more Eustace heard about it, the more he thought his parents had the right of it – he was having a really hard time squaring how an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-good God could allow Hitler and over a million dead Jews in Occupied Europe, if the papers were to be believed – and once Aslan entered the mix, it was even more muddled because the Lion was also supposed to be all the things God was but then had let the Witch kill Caspian’s wife and kidnap and torture Rilian and why had the Lion needed him and Pole to go through all that misery and almost get eaten when he could have just done the job himself.

Since Professor Kirke was supposed to be an expert on God, Eustace had thought he would have all the answers but, instead, the Professor had agreed with him.

“Eustace, I may be a very good theologian but I a very poor theist and, if you cannot reconcile the problem of evil with an all benevolent, omnipotent god, God, or gods, perhaps consider that the fault lies with the deity and not your own understanding.”

Lila is leaning up into Catherine's personal space, cooing Catherine's legal name in a sultry voice; Catherine is edging backwards with a slight smile that Lila won't notice is nervous, but Lila is pressing forward and in a moment will have her up against the wall (Chatonne Noire hates feeling boxed in) and Marinette cannot watch this. She fixes her gaze on the library door some meters past them and walks straight forward as though she has somewhere to be and notices no obstacles; she legitimately doesn't notice people in her path often enough that she can get away with mowing over Lila like this basically as often as she damn well pleases as long as she babbles enough apologies after.

While Lila's snarling at Marinette, Catherine slips away.

Catherine slides back into Mme. Bustier's classroom after lunch: Marinette's already in her seat behind Catherine's, nose firmly inserted in a slim poetry volume, but Marinette knows she's here and Catherine knows she knows.

There's a folded note waiting on Catherine's desk, the upwards side without salutation and signed only by a lip print in the same vivid scarlet as Ladybug's armor—it could be (often has been, but the hue is never right) from any of the people who look at her and see only the reserved, respectful, responsible (and oh so distantly, sweetly, unattainably romantic) young man her father raised. Inside is a sketch of a black kitten, who this time is wearing a green bow for a collar and unraveling a ball of soft blue yarn; it means chérie and chatonne and minette (which is not a double entendre yet) and all the things they dare not say.
