Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Oh, you should read the Queen's Thief series! They're by Megan Whalen Turner and they're lovely. (The sixth and final book is coming out in 2019! *bites nails in anticipation*)

[this went in a weird direction, sorry! I sure hope Academia is like...the concept, and not a show actually about academics studying dragons, or like...dragon academics]

I heard once, from those who claimed to know better, that people in medieval manuscripts pointing were sarcastic judgments of former scribes, judgments of masters long-dead for leaving out lines, making spelling mistakes, and the like; I always got mad at this notion; be cautious of prescribing modern beliefs to the ancients, I'd said, and they'd rolled their eyes because I was but a mere woman, what did I know that could compare to the great, male inheritance of Jove?

But I saw the patterns they missed; the elucidations that left out greater truths, the letters a,l,e,t,h, and i absconded from various texts, taken from potent words to offer you glory; cut for tribute that, reassembled, resembled nothing so much as an endless spiral of words, of letters, formed into scales, sacrificed into a mouth that breathed the fires that once forged humanity.

Oh darling, horrible Goddess, judge not them too harshly those who mock the loyal servants who procured your scales; when you cleanse this world in fire, let us dissolve in your firey breath, let our ashes coat your truth-bearing glory as we rise, ever upward, pointing toward a truth no blind jovian gaze can hide.

Another World (Naruto; Sakumo/Orochimaru)

[personal profile] kalira 2018-12-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Orochimaru struggled to stay awake, clawing onto consciousness and turning to look at the man sprawled beside him; he stayed just long enough to take in the messy silvery hair, the mostly bare figure, that he was breathing- and then darkness and exhaustion took him.

When Orochimaru woke he barely had a moment to feel the spark of panic or look around before he found himself hauled bodily into a powerful kiss, and he arched his back, thighs splaying across his lover's lap as he returned it demandingly.

"Where are we?" Sakumo asked as he pulled away, slightly breathless and his lips turned up in a tiny hint at a smile Orochimaru had not seen for far too long.

Orochimaru cleared his throat and smoothed his hair with one hand, extending his senses as he should have the moment he arrived; his chakra felt . . . odd, here, but it responded as it should, at least. "Another world." he said, and glanced at Sakumo. "I . . . could not bring you back, but I could move us both . . . elsewhere. There is no returning." he said warily.

Sakumo reached up, tangling his fingers with Orochimaru's and stroking down a lock of his long hair. "I knew that when I made my choice, lovely," he glanced down at where there was no longer a wound, nor even a scar, across his belly, then back up, "I- It's all right. Thank you." he added, swallowing thickly. "For the . . . chance."

(This one really wiggled out of the three sentence fic idea. . . If I get any longer than this I'm likely to pull them and just turn them straight-up into one-shots. Which, some of these I may expand anyway. . .)

Thank you! I was originally picturing just Gaara (and he is the only one who hasn't seen snow before) but . . . I had to have all three of them, hehe; I kind of love the Sand Siblings. The Konoha nin just being friendly! Temari might appreciate it more if it wasn't so early and Kankurou if it weren't so cold. XP

This made me cackle at the raw end of a very long week; thank you!

I especially like Sarmtan's lofty diction for the affliction laying him low, especially in contrast to the bare practicality of Beelzebub's knowing sympathy. (And it does make me wonder: do only fallen angels eat at Taco Bell's, or was perhaps Raphael there also, somewhat smug in his midsection transmutation sublimation of even the most devilish of fast food?)

"Trust . . . falls?" Allura cocked her head. "What manner of team exercise is this, then?"

Keith groaned, and Shiro smothered a laugh and gently nudged his shoulder as Hunk enthusiastically explained the concept to the puzzled Alteans. "Oh, come on, it won't be so bad, right?" Shiro asked, to no response beyond a flat glare from Keith.

greek mythology, Athena/Artemis

[personal profile] acequeenking 2018-12-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Did you hear about Hera's latest?" Artemis says, carefully sipping from a cup of potent wine that Athena has refilled without her asking.

"What sort of poor creature has she transformed father's paramour into this time?" Athena asks, laying out a card; Artemis slams her hand down on it, but with surprising gentleness, to the point that anyone come along would almost-but-not-quite swear they were playing at holding hands, not cards.

"A cow," Artemis replies, shaking her head, but she does not move her hand.

* * *

"Our mad uncle has made off with our spring-time sister; dragged her down with him to the underworld, it seems," Athena says by way of greeting her at home, tossing a delicious salad with surprising grace.

"Is it wrong I am perhaps, relieved, that he chose Persephone? I am glad it was not me...nor you; he's always been so boring, you know?" She asks; father has been trying to match his eldest brother up with one of his many daughters for centuries, and certainly, she imagines Athena had as many reservations at being kept perpetually in uncle's never-ending gloom and doom as she does.

"I feel bad for Persephone as well -- but better her than us...and he'd have quite a reckoning if he dared to think he could choose you," Athena says, sliding one taunt arm over hers as she hands her a fresh salad on one of their twin plates, and Artemis smiles at the familiar feel of home in another woman's hands.

***

"Your Apollo is singing to a tree," Athena says, raising an eyebrow as her twin very noisily murders a lyre, giving worship to a dead-and-disinterested dryad, and even Artemis has to agree, it's pretty embarrassing. "Is he always so loud in protesting his love who do not want it?"

"Always, I'm afraid; I certainly prefer a ...quieter paramour," she says, eyes sparkling with moonlight wickedness; Athena captures her mouth as swiftly as she sacks a city, and Apollo babbles on, completely missing the point.

Rescue (Sky High; Warren/Will)

[personal profile] kalira 2018-12-22 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Huddled behind a broken chunk of concrete, prying - horribly weakly - at the power suppression cuff locked around his wrist, Will honestly didn't think to flinch at the first gout of flame that rippled past him - Maybe, he thought as he ducked lower, pulling back his slightly singed boots, he was too used to being all but immune to fire, with Warren-

"War-" Will cut himself off abruptly, flushing, scrambling to rise as Warren stormed closer, wreathed in fire with his long leather coat - not a cape even if I am a hero now, fuck you, Stronghold - billowing around his legs. "Heatstroke! What are you doing here?"

Warren yanked him the rest of the way up, the cuff beginning to melt under Warren's fingers and then coming off easily as it caved in and Will felt his powers rush back; Warren tugged him into a harsh, heated kiss. "I'm the only one allowed to kick your ass, Stronghold," he all but growled against Will's mouth, "and don't you forget it."

[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake 2018-12-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
The first words out of his mouth were hardly romantic, and the rest of him hardly corrected the impression: his mouth still looked a little too wide, his knees turned out to the sides, and his eyes looked unnervingly in different directions — and, needless to say, his voice croaked.

The girl wondered whether the prince had always looked like a frog, and if the stories only made him out to be handsome and courteous because he was a prince.

“If that’s your attitude,” she retorted, “then that’s fine by me, and I won’t tell a soul — but you’ll have a hard time explaining where you’ve been all this time... and why you have webbed feet.”

[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake 2018-12-22 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
“Not literal dragons!” roared Brother Barnabas, who was shaped like a blacksmith and bellowed like a bull and behaved not at all like a scribe of holy texts.

Brother Cyril, reedy and stooped like an apprentice scribe should be, pointed at the offending page with its swirls of red flames and a shower of golden scales, protesting “But your note in the margin said—“

“I was referring to your atrocious spelling!” Brother Barnabus turned almost as scarlet as the illustrated dragon he resembled (circumstantially, of course), and then he threw up his hands and stalked away, muttering “Judas the Chariot and his thrifty pieces of sliver, harrumph!”

Star Trek DS9, Gul Dukat & Weyoun

[personal profile] spyrograph 2018-12-22 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend,” Gul Dukat spoke with such casual authority that anyone who did not know him might assume he was a philosopher and not a petty tyrant, "and that is why I love the people of Bajor so fiercely."

"I'm not sure I agree," Weyoun contradicted him only because he was not in the mood for another of Dukat's ego-stroking monologues, "or, at least, it's not true of every instance. You and I have become such good friends, haven't we?"

"Then I suppose it all depends on how one defines an enemy."

"Yes, I suppose it does."

Day's End (Tiger & Bunny; Kotetsu/Barnaby)

[personal profile] kalira 2018-12-22 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Clean and changed into more comfortable pants, Kotetsu flopped sideways onto the couch and stretched out, back arching and toes curling as his muscles shivered slightly with the force of the movement. Barnaby trailed the backs of his fingers up Kotetsu's bare belly, making him twitch and laugh, opening his eyes to grin up at Barnaby.

He lunged, sitting up and catching Barnaby around the waist, dragging him down across the couch until they were all tangled up together; Barnaby sighed and let his head settle on Kotetsu's shoulder, smiling slightly.
