Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

I love everything about this!! Especially Lucy and Susan emphasizing the serious ramifications of the decision even while urging Caspian to choose WOLVES, and the Cheetahs wanting only Peter and no one else, and dear Edmund, it’s so hard to tell when he’s joking! (But he’s right, you know. Geese are indeed the very embodiment of vicious ferocity.)

YES i love that they still have this connection even as far apart as they are, that even the thought of each other--of their family--will keep them going to see another day, and another, until they can find each other again. love this!

of course! god like she would do anything else, right? she fights with the weapons she's given, and does even more than that--she survives, and she thrives, and she lives, and fuck i love her so much

[personal profile] alice_pike 2018-12-19 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
thank you so much!!! yeah i have Thoughts and way too many Feelings about her. back when i first got into narnia, i found my people there based pretty much solely on how they felt about susan, so i'm glad to find so many more ♥

for me it seems like the worse earth/actual rl gets, the more i want to find the beauty in it, and i think susan would do the same--make the very most of what you have, and turn it into something to love, and something you would fight to protect.

yes oh my gOD i'm so weak for the pevensies in any permutation but of course i have a particular soft spot for edmund--his relationship with all three of them (and vice versa tbh) is so different and nuanced and great and frankly i will never tire of exploring it. so really thank you for the prompt!!

Well, who wouldn't want to assume their loved ones love them just as much?

I mean, there's a reason he had that mantra as a kid, and I think a big chunk of it is that he does need a consistent reminder. And he is three years out of practice with dealing with Azula's machinations, at least that first time, and of course he hasn't had much more practice by the time she really tries again in Ba Sing Se... (That does seem to be a talent of Azula's: find something her victim wants with that sort of desperate conviction, and dangle it in front of them if they just do as she wants - although to be fair, with Zuko it's not exactly hard to figure out.)

Re: Fill: Lady Ginnem & Yojimbo

[personal profile] ghostwings 2018-12-19 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
This is lovely! I really liked seeing this gentler side of Yojimbo, and the companionship between Yojimbo and Lady Ginnem. I like how you made Lady Ginnem's death the "price" Yojimbo accepts for his service; both of them, in their way, sacrificed their lives for Yevon (Yojimbo by becoming a fayth, and Lady Ginnem in attempting her prematurely-ended pilgrimage... which would have ended in her sacrifice anyways, even if she had gotten the Final Aeon.)

Lady Ginnem gets so little characterization in the game itself, for all that she was very important to Lulu, so it's always nice to see any fic that fleshes her out a bit more. And I always thought the moonlit scene in Yojimbo's summon animation was lovely (and the way Yuna pets Daigoro is also super-cute :D); it really would be a pleasant and peaceful place to be, especially given that Ginnem's end was anything but peaceful.

The ending is so lovely and bittersweet--Lady Ginnem has found this place of refuge with Yojimbo, but inevitably, both of them will have to leave the dream behind.

Thank you for writing this!
setsuntamew: cap of Axel and Roxas from the manga with Axel pinning Roxas down with his chakram (Axel & Roxas → manga scene)

Axel missed the first day of Intro. Psych due to oversleeping, but he wasn't too concerned. He missed a bunch of scared baby freshman and other disenchanted seniors like himself. He's only taking it to get the gen. ed. credit, so who cares?

He shows up on time for the second lesson at least, with a copy of the syllabus snagged from Demyx's boyfriend, who TAs the other section. But apparently missing it was a bad decision, because he also missed out on learning the name of the bitchy looking blond guy who shows up five minutes late with a cup of coffee the size of his head.

There's something about him that seems familiar, but Axel can't put his finger on it before the lesson starts. The professor drones on and on about the importance of attendance - whoops, fucked that one up already! - and taking studies seriously, but all he can focus on is the strange feeling tugging at his heart.

Axel tries to catch up with the stranger after the lesson, but he's out the door before Axel can get out of his seat.

Fuck.

Every class is like this: strange blond shows up at the last possible second (or late), gripping coffee like it's his life force, Axel gets even stranger feelings that make him want to tear his hair out, and then blondie dips out before Axel has a chance to talk to him. It's almost enough to make him feel like he's going out of his away to avoid someone, but Axel isn't gonna sit around and think up wild conspiracies.

Sometimes, going to a massive state school fucking sucks, because it's too god damn big to try to track down a random guy from his class. He's tried now, but "blond, with spiked hair, really short?" doesn't narrow it down enough apparently. At this point, Axel's pretty sure he's gonna go the whole semester without figuring out who the mystery boy is.

Until he oversleeps again and says fuck it to going to class. He'll get the notes from someone else later and take a leisurely breakfast/lunch at Starbucks. Seated in a back corner with his oversized coffee mug is none other than the illusive blond, and Axel doesn't waste any time in joining him at his cramped table.

"Hey there!" he says, grinning, and is greeted with a look of confusion. Fuck, his eyes are such a bright blue. Who allowed that?

"Can I help you?" he asks, like he can't decide if he should be brusque or friendly.

"Well, you're in intro psych with me, and I see we're both playing hooky to chill at Starbucks instead," he says. "I'm Axel."

"I overslept."

He offers his hand, hoping to get some sort of connection from this guy. "Whaddaya know? Me too."

There's a pause, painfully long and strained, before he takes Axel's hand. "I'm Roxas."

And that is the final piece, the one that pulls all the strands of messy, confusing emotions together. There's a warmth between them now - or at least Axel hopes there is. "I'm glad we met again."

Roxas gives him a strained smile. "Took you long enough. I can't believe you skipped the first day of class."

Axel laughs as the last bit of stress and awkwardness falls away. This is it.

She was shut away by her own mind for seven months and shut inside the Chamber for seven hours. But Ginevra Molly Weasley is the seventh child of a seventh child and everyone knows there’s power in that, so she won’t be contained any longer. She meets every challenge with a slanted hip and a blunt stare, and when she goes home she knows better than to lock up what’s happened, and she gives herself space to feel the things she feels.

Van Helsing (Syfy)

[personal profile] desertscribe 2018-12-19 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
The water was so cold that Scarlett probably would have gotten hypothermia before even reaching Vanessa's retreating rowboat, and Vanessa had been so hell-bent on finishing their quest alone that she might have dumped Scarlett right back into the water anyway, but as the hours turned into days which then turned into weeks without anything to do to pass the time but bury the dead as best as she could and then stare across the water at the distant mainland or search the tiny island for methods of escape which did not exist, Scarlett regretted not trying when she had the chance.

When the last of the stored food began to run low with no sign of Vanessa coming back for her, Scarlett decided that she was going to have to attempt the swim after all and hope that her increased healing would be enough to counteract the killing cold of the water, and waiting any longer to do it would not help her chances of survival at all. As Scarlett walked down the beach, past where Jacob had died, up to her knees, up to her waist, until the frigid water was too deep for her to touch bottom at all (and so damn cold), she considered leaving her blades behind to make the crossing easier, but she knew she would need them when she got to the other side and, knowing her luck, would probably also need them to stab a shark in the face along the way.
