Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

I feel like I should've been much less surprised than I was by that but OH WELL >.> (It's at least partly your fault, too.)

Skyrim: Dunmer Dragonborn, Alduin, M'Aiq the Liar:

"Legends don't burn down villages.", Ulfric had said; damn fool Nords and their pointless talent for the obvious. Just about my luck, though, my people's luck, to be spared from the headsman's axe only to, literally, gaze into the eyes of the Eater of Worlds, and smell his foul breath.

And again, here at Kynesgrove: Alduin bringing one of his children out of its tomb, back from the dead. There must be hundreds of these tombs scattered across Skyrim, dragons buried for thousands of years, farms and villages built next to them, travelers passing by them, children playing atop them.

I'm standing here, next to the empty tomb, in among the charred remains of a village-burning 'legend', with that half-crazy Breton innkeeper (The Blades? Really?), and that snarky housecarl Balgruuf probably just saddled me with to keep me out of trouble.

I'm reminded of what an old Khajiit fisherman from back home, years and years ago, told me, only half-joking: "Dragons aren't gone. They're just invisible, and very very quiet."

He was right, wasn't he? For all that it's worth when the world ends.

(Couldn't squeeze this into just three sentences, but once it came to mind, it had to be written regardless!)

"Are you kidding me, Jones?" Jacob yelled crossly. "You cannot just make this stuff up as you're going along!"

"How far back did we go?"

The dinosaur lumbering along, too close for comfort, seemed to answer Cassandra's question.

Jones swallowed hard and stared at the complex dials and buttons of the time machine's consoles before offering his fellow Librarians a shrug and a hopeless expression. "Sorry, mates."

I love that Dorian and Timothy's reactions are so removed from Dorothy and her father's. It makes for a haunting image, that this music is so removed from their world but so present in the other two's.

I go into anything Fallen London expecting to be unsettled, but damn, this actually feels hopeful! ...and unsettling, with the very last bit. But I can see why the little signs of life and that the life was lovely and pleasant wins out for the lantern-bearer.

I love the difference drawn between the music and Jareth. He could also give a strong impression of existing only for his own pleasure, but Sarah knows the difference.

Shiro narrows his eyes at Keith, who is laughing so hard he's fallen out of his chair. "Stop laughing! When have I ever taken unnecessary risks?!"

It takes Keith a solid thirty seconds before he can breathe enough to answer. "You showed me how to jump my hoverbike off a cliff when I was fifteen."

"I...that wasn't...you didn't jump off the cliff then!" Shiro argues, and Keith just starts laughing all over again.

The water around them rose higher and higher by the minute but Sherlock appeared unfazed at the prospect of death by drowning and misadventure in the remnants of the River Fleet.

"Remind me again why I have to be one to do this?" John grumbled, shaking his head with resignation as he prepared to scramble up a workman's ladder towards the door set high in the sewer tunnel.

"Well, if you must know... you are of a height that should fit through that opening, the raincoat you're wearing should be sufficient to protect you from the rain that is still coming down above ground and more importantly," the detective paused briefly, watching as his friend placed one foot cautiously on the bottom rung and then the other, "I have absolute confidence in your abilities to carry out this escape plan to the fullest, John."

Veronica is exhausted. She can't remember the last time she had a decent night's sleep; she can't remember the last time she wasn't afraid with every breath she takes. Galaxy Garrison is safe—for a relative value of safe—but who knows for how long?

She looks up at the dark ceiling of her bunk, thinks of her baby brother out there somewhere in the universe. The last they'd heard, Voltron was missing, but...

She exhales slowly. No. Lance is still alive, and he wouldn't want her to give up hope. And as long as he's fighting, so will she.

But his dad had also said, "You haven't told anyone else, have you, son," and that, like everything else, makes perfect sense in retrospect. THIS!!!! god i love this, it's so evocative and succinct and says VOLUMES, perfectly encapsulates the history we know is there. And I love that it's still there, that he still the connection with the landscape even after all these years.
