caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

i can't believe you took my d&d prompt and constructed the perfect hamlet metaphor out of it because yes, this is exactly what hamlet would think. and the three sentences build so well off each other, and 'so long ago that this castle was nothing like a prison' is such a good turn of phrase!

The day of Sozin's Comet will, unsurprisingly, be full of fire; nothing short of complete victory in the absence of the Avatar. But all Zuko can picture are the people he's met in the Earth Kingdom: the ones with burn scars like Song (like him), the ones who knew their identities and helped them anyway, the refugees in Ba Sing Se and Li's family in the desert and even the Freedom Fighters, proven right after all as Zuko's tongue stays glued to the roof of his mouth.

As the war meeting comes to a close, Zuko can't help but think that victory tastes like ash.

Dearly Beloved

It is perhaps unconventional to get married on top of a huge mechanical Black Lion that's carried your soul like its own child; that you and your boyfriend have piloted, and that you have both saved time and space with.

Then again, when have Shiro and Keith ever been conventional?

Besides, it is not every day that the aforementioned Lion was part of a quest to bring your dear not-so-departed-after-all friend back to Earth, back home. Allura had descended from Blue, hair floating in a wind that shouldn't blow in space, and amidst sobbing and embraces from her friends (her family) and Lance falling into her arms, Shiro had taken the one he loved, his soul's half, in his own and whispered, "I love you all so much, and Keith—please…will you marry me?"

It is perhaps unusual to have a wedding with only their universe-saving Castle family present (Lance manfully tosses juniberry flowers; Allura cradles the mice carrying the rings; Pidge and Hunk bump fists and wear their best best-man smiles) but as Coran had put it: "I never thought we'd all be stuck together again, all, all seven of us-" he sniffles, pressing a kiss to Allura's forehead for the hundredth time. "Keith, Shiro, may we marry you?"

(They say yes; of course they do. Keith makes his wishes abundantly clear soon enough, and Shiro agrees: this will not be the only wedding they will have. Keith will cleave his soul to Shiro's before his mother and Kolivan and the Blades, before the entire Garrison, before the whole Coalition and the remains of the Empire—before the whole damn universe if he has to. It owes them, after all.

"As many times as it takes," Keith vows, eyes shining like galaxies, like the rest of their lives and Shiro kisses him.)

A tilt of the head and then Dean swallowed as blood red eyes met his own and a fang-filled grin spread across a face that was entirely too narrow for it. "Side?" the creature chuckled. "I am in the service of the Hellsing Organization. Who do you call master, little hunting dog?"

I love how Aradia doesn't care about Vriska cheating, aside from the aesthetic enjoyment of beating her anyway. And that last line's gorgeous.

Overheard (Kamisama Kiss; Tomoe/Akura Ou)

"It's true! I told you, I heard them in the bathhouse, and," Taka laughs, "that fox certainly can shriek; if I didn't know better I would almost have thought there was a human girl in there! But you know I heard that even-" he breaks off with a frown as his audience is suddenly a third the size it had been, and they are all . . . looking . . . past him.

He whirls and finds a cool green gaze intent upon him over a delicately-patterned fan, and feels his blood run cold. "Do tell," Tomoe said, his voice soft and smooth, and Taka isn't sure if being caught by the fox is any better than if the king himself had interrupted, "what have you . . . heard?" he asks, leaning close, a spark suddenly showing in his eyes, and Taka knows he is going to die.
