ACCCK!

So, not only have I surpassed Part 1 in Words, Words, Words (ahem, right), TQSiT is approaching 200. To repeat, AACK! Which give how WEIRD this stuff is, says something not easy to interpret about both reader and writer.
In any event, I've been musing a lot on Part 3. As I mentioned in Autumnia's comment, for any who are following enough to remember, back in Part 1, Asim has been dreaming of the Dawn Treader all summer and been dreaming of the girl/woman on the bow for longer than that. Further, in Chapter 3, Later, of TQSiT he is himself impatient to meet Lucy. We know this meeting is coming. Similarly, after Agnes' reading of the Tarot cards in chapter 6, we know that a meeting is coming for Susan as well. He tells Edmund they will meet again. Peter and Asim need to have a long and awkward conversation as well about double lives and deception through omission, pot meet kettle.

I had intended to end TQSiT where it's going to end (August 1942) and then jump ahead 4 years to 1946, which means no further contact between the denizens of the House of Russell and the Pevensies until after the War ends. I am really wondering if I can stick to that plan, particularly given the development of Peter's character in Part 1. Peter left Oxford in a rush, and broke his promise to Richard. As written here, however angry Peter is or remains at Asim, that anger will not keep him from seeing Richard. There are other things too -- things like the fact that given how it's been it written thus far, someone will tell Susan when those tanks arrive in North Africa and that they are pivotal -- which in real life did not happen until September-November 1942.

I'm not sure where this leaves except, likely, some unplanned writing at the front end of Part 3.

Hmm... it would be interesting to see a jump forward in several years, especially if the Pevensies don't see the Russells (again, in the case of Peter) in that time. It would indeed be a really intersting encounter. I can't really think of much to help you with this, anything you write is sure to be fine with me.

Yep, it was going to be interesting with a series of Big Moments starting around the fall of 1946. But... I am just not seeing it in light of Part 1. Peter won't let all that time go without seeing Richard, they will want to introduce Eustace to Digory and Polly, Eustace will want to meet the Russells, and, egads, Lucy and Ed will want to see Digs and Polly too. Ed is secretly hoping to see Asim again, Asim really wants to meet Lucy, and Susan is returning home, so there will be the de-brief. Peter will want to return the pack too and Asim's knife. I need a spreadsheet. In any event, ya, I'm jumping ahead and still have to (hope to) finish part 2. I may ... rush it a bit.

haha A spreadsheet on this would be very interesting to see!

Spreadsheet, or project planner, or whatever works. Maybe even a timeline? It would be brilliant if you had a timeline of critical events, which is either added to as you go, or something to come once the full arc is complete. OK, so I'm a nerd, but I love that kind of thing (even if I am suggesting more work for you!)

autumnia and WingedFlight's comments about Richard got me thinking too. If he doesn't really appear much again, then I guess you'd need to leave the resolution with Peter as is. But if Part 3 doesn't begin until 1946, would Richard still have it even moderately together (if he's even survived) that long?

I know dementia is a wretch of a condition that moves differently for every sufferer, but as you've pointed out yourself in Part 1, Richard himself doesn't think he's got too much time. Yep, sounds to me like we'll either have to have a "mini" part or a earlier start to Part 3. Cool...

Oh, and congrats - seriously, you deserve every single one.
Cheers

Yep, that's pretty much my thinking on it. I spent a lot of time establishing a certain character for Peter -- admittedly, a lot of it a reaction to the angry!stupid!Peter of the Prince Caspian film and the stupid, falls for any girl Peter of fan fic. So, having established a character that is conscientious, loyal, and self-sacrificing to the point that he is very nearly incapable of self-interested acts, and believing that he has done Aslan's will in telling Richard what he has, he's not going to let this sit for very long. Further, this Peter compartmentalizes, and he will be able to separate his anger about Asim from everyone else. So, yeah, more writing.

Not a spreadsheet, a project planing tool, so that you won't get all the meetings in the wrong order ;-)
