3 Sentence Ficathon Poll and Discussion

Wow. This has been amazing. There are over 4,100 comments to the 3 Sentence Ficathon entry. The quality, the discussion, the prompts, the fills, the participation, and you all, have been amazing.

We have a friending meme here and a cross posting post here, so drop a line if you are so inclined with your vitals and where you are cross posting your work!

Even with all that activity, over 40 pages in the original thread, I'm still seeing new participants and fills to old prompts. I know, though, that it's becoming daunting and difficult to manage. I know I've missed some great prompts and fills.  So, what next?

I'd originally intended to run this for about as long as the fabulous CaramelSilver did in 2011 and end the challenge on April 7, 2013. I know a lot of folks will be on spring break over the next two weeks, so that would give time for more participation. Do we continue to that date or stop while we're ahead?  If we do continue, to April 7, should I start a new thread, realizing that we'll lose some of the excitement and momentum but also may encourage others who are finding 4100 comments and 40+ pages too overwhelming?  Please vote below and share your thoughts on how to proceed and anything else about the 3SF.  If not April 7 for an end date, when?

Also, if anyone wants to make icons or banners do link us in comments!

Most of all, thanks so much.  You all are great.

The 3SF was supposed to finish on April 7, 2013. Should we still hold to that day?

My thinking is don't fix what isn't broken. As long as momentum continues, let's just keep going!

I think we should definitely keep it going (well, of course I do, I think a good quarter of the prompts are mine...), but I'm less sure of the issue of a new post. The current one is huge and a bit daunting, yes, so in that regard it would be nice to have a new one, but on the other hand, I feel like that would highly lessen the chance of any of the unfilled prompts in that thread getting attention, and might cause new people to miss out on all the great older fills too. So I think there are pros and cons to both options.

(Thanks again for taking this all on! It's the best.)

I definitely think we should keep it going - a new post might be a good idea to take the pressure off keeping up with so many pages (is there a way to freeze no more new prompts, but allow fills on these 40 pages to continue?) while still letting the momentum run its course.

Basically, if you as hostess are up for it, I would love for it to continue through April 7!

I think that as long as people are still showing interest, and as long as you are up to it, we should keep it open. And thank you for doing it at all, I'm having such fun with it!

A very very simple one, but here's an icon if anyone wants to use it!

I've seen other -athons with many, many pages associated with them. If the momentum is there, people will post. I agree with the person that suggested closing the original post to new prompts, but leaving it open to fills.

What you might do is when it hits 50 pages close that post to new prompts and start a new post for new prompts. That way people can focus on fills only for the first post and have fun thinking of new prompts on the new post! Also the new post will be less daunting for newcomers.

I'm in favor of keeping this open for the original duration, as it's been a tremendous amount of fun do far! As for the new post question, I think a new post would definitely be a good thing, so that people new to the ficathon don't feel intimidated or overwhelmed. But there are a lot of excellent lonely prompts in the first post, so maybe what we could do is attempt to have those prompts migrate. If every participant posts comments with all of the prompts they'd like to see filled (or refilled, if they want) in the new post, both new and old participants would be able to find and fill the prompts easily, and everybody else would be able to easily read the new fills, instead of letting the new fills get hidden somewhere in the middle of page 37.

I'm loving this and I have found new people to read and also got a bit brave a couple of times and wrote fills for fandoms that I love but have never written for. This is a great event you have here. : )

I've been enjoying this, though not posting much; the ones I did post were great fun to write, and I've read some brilliant fills. Also as grey wonderer has said, there's a huge benefit in finding new people to read, and also for me in finding whole new fandoms.

The migrating of unfilled prompts sounds desirable, but would maybe be very difficult or time-consuming?

This has been awesome. Thank you so much for hosting it. This was my first time at the meme, but if my tracking works correctly I will definitely be back next year (and if it doesn't, hopefully someone will remind me!).
