I'm glad; the first draft focused considerably less on the aspect of guilt, and while I perceived that as more in tune with the original myth it also made me super-uncomfortable to rob Daphne even of her victimhood... because while Apollo would probably pity himself for his broken heart, he's not the one who got turned into a tree (she's not even really allowed to control that one last act of defiance).
With the Greek gods we do so often see the ugliest sides of human psyche - jealousy, vindictiveness, etc - it's sort of nice to think they are capable of the more positive ones as well. Thank you for the comment. :)
