Jill thought Eustace would faint from the sheer number of reptiles unique to the Galapagos Islands, where his latest grant had brought them to study endemic reptilian species, but he didn't actually grow trembly-kneed until he sighted the Amblyrhynchus cristatus for the first time.
"Pole," he muttered, tugging urgently on her sleeve, "Pole, look, I'll be damned if that isn't a dragon!"
Sure enough, the huge six-feet horned beast cresting the sand dune looked exactly like one of the Draco Narnia that Eustace had told her all about...just a bit smaller and with less firepower.
