Last day for sign ups!

Narnia Fic Exchange sign ups close today!  Go! Sign up!

I have a HUGE THING this week on Friday.   If nothing else, at my age, I should have the right to respond to people, "I refuse to do things that you think are 'good for me' as that always means 'convenient for you' and 'very unpleasant for me.'"  I think I'll bring snacks.  Just because you teaching 50 adult professionals doesn't mean they don't like snacks the same way 8 year olds do.  How can you go wrong with candy bars?

A huge thanks to those who commented in the last post.    It took me a week to write 3,000 words which is so depressing but I finally have a draft of Morgan and The Talk.

“No thing of this world is perfect, Morgan. Sometimes we love things because of their imperfections and sometimes in spite of them.”

As with the comment about not getting lost, she didn’t think Aslan wasn’t just speaking about trees, Trees, and pollen. “Can we sit, sir? If I try to walk and read my notes and talk, I’ll trip.”

“You will not stumble if you walk with me, Morgan.”

No question this time. “You do that a lot, don’t you?” she countered but did keep on walking.

“And what is that?”

“Be metaphorical. Or, saying one thing and meaning that and something else besides. Can’t you ever just speak plainly and give a simple yes or no?”

“Yes,” the Lion replied.

There was a period in my work life, roughly 2002-2005, when my team of folks went back & forth to San Francisco regularly. We developed the habit of picking up a box of See's chocolate lollipops (the Latte are my favorite) for the office. We would sit at staff meetings discussing Big Important Serious Things with lollipops.

I concluded that there would be a LOT fewer wars in the world if such lollipops were distributed at the beginning of all major negotiations. Possibly also all meetings of NATO and the UN.

Oh yes, THAT period of your work life. Heh. I LOVE Sees lollipops. I love the chocolate and the latte and the caramel -- the vanilla is the only one I'm really bleh on. Curse Mr. Spock. He volunteered me, of course, and now he's in Venice and I'm here. Bah.

You can get the Sees pops around here at the shopping malls... I just can't see getting to the mall between now and Friday morning. But, this does give me a brilliant idea as lollipops wonderfully demonstrate the principle that even a lollipop can be a regulated medical product depending on what you say about it. If it's in conjunction with the stick for xerostomia (dry mouth) it's probably an FDA-regulated medical device requiring something complicated. And OMG it's hot out.

I want to work in your office. I've had See's chocolates a couple of times, brought by visiting Californian cousins, and they were extremely good.

I'm not sure about their potential for preventing wars, though. What if there weren't enough salted caramels to go round?

I HAVE SIGNED UP! Course now I have to write, which will be interesting xD

And yes, allllllllll the snacks. Life is so much better with snacks. Hope it goes well!

And the draft of the talk works well hun! And oh MORGAN. I love how she focuses on her notes and not falling over, and questions Aslan, its wonderful :DDD

I am so glad you signed up!!!!

I think, honestly, adults like snacks at such things more. Kids take snacks as a right; adults seem to appreciate that life could be worse- there could be no snack!

PS VERY excited to read this next chapter of Harold and Morgan. Aslan!!!!! Being metaphorical even with only a 'yes!' Lol.

SNACKS ACQUIRED. And Morgan and Aslan are so interesting. He's just going to destroy her life and he knows she's going to hate him for it. And he's totally OK with that because as Anastigmatfic notes, she does this all out of love.

[identity profile] hungrytiger11.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
It makes me very heartbroken that he's going to "destroy" her life. I guess that's all you can call her loss of husband, but I hope her life post-Edmund contains joy and happiness too.

You are quite right! She is not going to spend the rest of her life bitter and angry. There will be joy, too.

Snacks are one of the greatest things in the world. Just my opinion there.

And I like how Morgan understands the complexities of Aslan, and His speech, and is annoyed with it.

And then we move on to making succession, heirs, Frank and Helen's instruction from Aslan, and babies. Gawd. what what what am I doing? Srsly. Other people only have 2,000 word chapters? why are mine all 5 times as long???

[identity profile] lotl101.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, but I fully admit to being jealous of your ability. Signed, that person who can't write longer than a few hundred words... And I'll never complain about long chapters

[identity profile] wellinghall.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope the HUGE THING goes well!

80 powerpoint slides.... not good

[identity profile] wellinghall.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh!

[identity profile] min023.livejournal.com 2012-06-20 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. You can definitely park me in the 'chocolate fixes everything' school of training. Because really, it just does. Hope your big thing goes well, too. And that snippet is just so wonderfully... irritating? (definitely not in a bad way). I completely get the whole 'conversation running in two directions, and trying to make it come back so I can make sense of it' thing, and I don't have to deal with pollen, two left feet and an all-seeing, all-knowing, metaphysical Lion while I'm doing it, either : )

[identity profile] rthstewart.livejournal.com 2012-06-22 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
And then THEN there are at least 2 more significant conversations. Why do I do this? I could just post Edmund and Morgan each talking with Aslan. it could be 6,000 words. Why can't I just do that? WHY WHY??? Because THEN I have a another conversation with Jina about succession, heirs, Frank and Helen's instruction from Aslan, and babies.

And snacks acquired. I'm so screwed.

You cannot go wrong with snacks. (Well, okay, technically you can -- allergy issues, etc. -- but even in cases where I have been unable to eat provided snacks, I was glad somebody had taken the time to provide any at all!)

I really like this excerpt. Aslan really can be kind of infuriating that way, talking in layers even when he sounds like he's saying something very simple and straightforward, and he has a tendency toward Pronouncements that can be disconcerting if you're not expecting it. Morgan's reactions feel very realistic and true to her character. :-)

Have a great vacation!

Snacks acquired. I had a horrid thought -- what if someone in the audience is on this site? Eep. "I read your LJ about bringing snacks. Are you rthstewart?" Ooops

a week to write 3000 words? HAH. I laugh at your “block”.

Seriously: your output is amazing.

I have two nice standalone pieces. They are 5,200 words. I could post them. Really. But nooooooo must keep writing because I'm insane.

80 powerpoint slides. I am so screwed.

I'm so excited about hearing Morgan's questions to Aslan. This seems like a nice sample of what is coming ...
