Pretty Fly for a Jedi

So the OFFs (Old Fandom Friends) and I have admired the considerable assets of ODAE (Obi-Wan Dressed as Ewan Mcgregor) for many years.  Salmon Fishing in the Yemen hit [livejournal.com profile] econopodder 's ODAE-radar and she decided we HAD to see it.  [livejournal.com profile] knitress was going to come but there was a ticket snafu alas and [livejournal.com profile] lexsara was waiting for a refrigerator so it was just me and [livejournal.com profile] econopodder in the theater (I did not see anyone confirmed by the Senate or elected by popular mandate which is unusual in this particular theater).  But the three of us got coffee afterward and I told my OFFs about what a depraved reprobate I am.

But, back to ODAE, reflecting that we all are getting along in the years, no longer struts his Jedi stuff and doesn't go Fully Monty any more (which he used to be counted upon to do reliably (Velvet Goldmine, Pillowbook) but really this is just a delightful film.  Granted it is not QDAL (Qui Gon Dressed as Liam Neeson) with Wolves but instead we get Obi-Wan with fish. As Qui-Gon said, "there's always a bigger fish" which just had to be said, even if not relevant.

In other VERY exciting news, I get to meet TWO New Fandom Friends over the next two days. I'm very excited.

A little embarrassing, but I'm going to have to make time to see this. :-)

By the way - are we almost celebrating rthstewart's 3rd anniversary?

Oh gawd yes, and don't tell me the word count! I posted the first chapter of TSG on 22 March 2009. EEK

And what a brilliant adventure it is! Every now and then I remember that NBB is about to come down the tube, and heave a great sigh of happiness.

Well, if you write twice as much as Clive Staples did, Not-My-Children's Narnia must be twice as good... :-)

Sounds like a good time was had all 'round. I admit, the more I see and hear about this film, the more I'm longing to see it. It strikes me this is exactly the kind of character I most like to watch ODAE sink his teeth into - the somewhat awkard, more repressed guy who goes on a lovely character journey through the film.

As for some of your other comments... well, I tend to think that some things in life are only getting better with age. ;)

I am trying to remember if ODAE has glasses. I don't think he does. There is desert, so I think there may be combat boots. Oh! there are waders and devastating use of a fly fishing rod!!! As romantic-comedy-like as this is, it is (I think) fun for the male part of the equation. I think LST would have liked it a lot, and I intend to drag him to it after Hunger Games.

I tend to consider glasses an extra-special treat, available only rarely.

However, from what is seen in the trailers I've watched, there is that adorable hat and, at one point, fancy dress. So extra-special treats of a different variety.

Don't even get me started on the fly fishing. ;)
