NBB Summaries are up!

Oh my gosh.  The summaries are up for the 10 stories still in progress for the Narnia Big Bang so that artists can claim a story and match art to it.  Tudor Pevensies!  Elephants!  Telemarine politics! Susan and her daughter!  Tarkaans and Rabadash!  Red leather trousers and mongooses!  Amazing AUs!!

Wow.  Just wow.  Final stories and art are due March 31 and posting begins April 8.

...I have a sudden feeling that I should have written a more detailed summary. Oops.

I can't wait to read all the stories! They sound fascinating!

There was twitter-discussion. Which seems to have resulted in the "oh, just short ones like you'd post with" crowd panicking and adding lots of summary, and the "shouldn't it be detailed for the artists" crowd panicking and cutting lots of summary, and now everyone is face-palming. So you're in good company.

Forgive the stupid question from someone who doesn't do fic communities, but what is a Big Bang? (I'm assuming you're not talking about the beginning of the universe or the TV show...)

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers! Big Bang is lingo for a challenge to write a big story. In this case the Narnia big bang is either over 10,000 or over 20,000 words. There was an open post of prompts to get the creative juices going, and then writer sign ups and you could, if you wanted, claim a story. After some weeks of writing, we've just posted our summaries and now artists sign up to do art to accompany the story, such as a fanmix of music, icons, book cover, or something like that. The mods match the artist and the writer and in this case, posting begins in April.

10,000 words is a big story? The story I just finished was 129,000! I rarely write *less* than 10,000! Wonder if my fandom of choice has one of these. I really am way too wordy for my own good...

129,000 is HUGE! Awesome! The idea though is that it's a challenge that runs over a specified period of time, so 10,000 to 60,000 is probably doable and really big stories are not. There are all sorts of fun things for bonding with the others in your fandom, including the Remix (where you put up your stories in eligible fandoms and someone takes one and "remixes" it and you do the same to someone else's story) and Yuletide, of course. There are lots of things out there, like the porn challenge, rare pairings, femgenficathon, 3 sentence ficathon, rare women, etc. etc. Links to some of these are in my tags and you can also check out the collections on AO3 where a lot of these are archived.

Ah, I don't do well with time limits. One of the reasons I will probably never be a professional writer. These kinds of challenges are kind of like gaming is to me: love the concept, but actually partaking myself doesn't work for me. Ah well. My fandom is kinda dead anyway. :(

If all the stories are due March 31, why do we have to wait another eight days?
