Pictures from Oxford Museum of Natural History

So, the awesome J. Apple has been to Oxford, to the Oxford Museum of Natural History.  J.Apple has sent me lots of wonderful pictures describing this cathedral to science.  You can find them all here in the galley, including the Cat Window, Alice's dodo, and the Museum's collection of BEETLES.  YES the BEETLES ARE HERE.  I've included clips to where some of these references were made.

Edit:  Really, if nothing else, you must click on the Beetles one and see the caption.  I almost spit up the morning coffee.

Well spotted [livejournal.com profile] autumnia

Thank you so much J. Apple!

This is awesome. Also, just an FYI, but the suggested reading list is always at the top of the recent entries page, with new updates coming in below that, with most recent right below. The entries seem to be out of order. Just figured I'd let you know.

Thanks! The post on top is the fic master list -- I created it for the remix challenge and it's for those who come here just looking for the fic that I don't put anywhere else. It will always be "on top" as the first entry.

These are rth-approved visuals!

I must say that the Cat Window looks nothing like I thought it would look. And your appropriately display captions really help to set the scene now that we have real pictures to go with how it looks in our heads.

Also, the quote displayed above the Beetles exhibit seemed very, very appropriate. :-)

YES! These are visuals I can get behind. OMG. HOW DID I NOT SEE ABOUT THE BEETLES CAPTION QUOTE AT THE TOP??? That is hilarious.

Love the beetles quote.

Actually what strikes me here is that the cat window looks far more like what I expected than the last time a cat window visual went up (AW Ch 2 notes); seeing the whole thing instead of a close-up makes a huge difference in the effect!

I was amazed at how difficult it has been to find any pictures of this window, for all that it is supposed to be famous. I was thrilled when I found that one reference back in Chapter 2 and it's been great for J Apple to find the whole thing. As for the beetles, I may have to go back and add that caption to the story itself.

Thank you so much for connecting the pieces of your story to the pictures! That is wonderful!
It's funny that the beetle quote didn't stick out to you right away - when I saw it in person, I did a double take because I thought it was so appropriate! And the case is really quite large.
I was very impressed by how close your descriptions were to the real thing, despite you having not been there in person.

(the one thing that I wish actually exsisted was the raven and writing desk, because I love that scene. BUT I have decided in my head canon that it was there when the Pevensies were, but had to be removed later on for some humourous reason)

I'm so glad you have enjoyed these! : )

The Museum website is great and that's how I was able to add so much in -- about the skeletons, the history, the architecture, and so on. But yes, some of it was invented wholly and also of course we know what it looks like now, but I couldn't easily find out what it was like 60 years ago. So, we just have to pretend about the writing desk and the Raven. And now, back to Writing Desks and Ravens.
