oh, no worries! I'll admit that at first I thought Toph would be the first Avatar (since she's the first metalbender, so she would/could be the first master of all elements) until that line about Suki looking like the last Earth Avatar smacked me in the face :P so I was trying to figure out how the Avatar system actually worked here, haha. I think if metalbending used to exist in the distant past, it would have had to be lost before the first Avatar, since otherwise the reincarnation cycle would keep it going, yeah? but I do like the idea of people assuming there's only four (bendable) elements until Toph happens.
