Ooh, now I want to write a metaphorical interpretation...
Anyway, it occurred to me that the world's tiniest violin would necessarily play an octave or two higher (physics being what it is), and in that case it probably wouldn't be a violin anymore -- which does make the saying a bit nonsensical, but hey, nobody ever said figures of speech had to be logically consistent. :D
