Welcome Komo!

So on Sunday we visited a kennel and on Wednesday we brought home Komo, a 5 year old male yellow labrador retriever. He's an enormous 90 pounds/41 kg. (By comparison, McKinley was 45 to 50). He originally had the dumb name of Chase, which is not a thing to be yelling at a dog that decides to run after a squirrel. We need to get him neutered and he and the Thorin Corgishield are not yet best buddies. But I think he'd be a great dog for me to work on getting a therapy certification. If he's going to sleep in our bed, we're going to need a bigger bed. We named him Komo because he has a "Lizard factor" and will slurp up soft squishy things -- he's already had two surgeries. But we've been down that road before, so hopefully he'll grow out of it in a year or three.

Thorin is indeed a Corgi and Komo has no interest in playing at all as he growls at Thorin when he gets too close. There was more sniffing today so that was better and I assume it will improve once he's neutered. Komo doesn't seem to know how to play. I know proper retrievers aren't supposed to play tug. But all ours have been terrible at that and love tug. His mouth is so soft, he was bleeding after chewing on a soft, squeaky toy. He's housebroken, so that's good, but he's got the weird I've lived in a kennel all my life thing going on.

Aww, what an adorable pupper! Er, doggo, I guess, dunno if they're still called puppers at five years old. But what a great age, and housebroken to boot! :D
