Three Sentence Ficathon -- Part 2

EDIT AS OF 2 FEBRUARY 2019 -- THE 3 SENTENCE FICATHON IS OVER!  Go ahead and read and fill anything that catches your eye and comment on fills but I'm not checking it anymore and most people have moved on so any new prompts aren't likely to get much love.

We are nearing the point that the first 3SF post, which went live on 12 December, is nearing 4,600 comments. At 5,000 comments, Dreamwidth starts demanding captcha to assure you aren't a spammer bot. It's a pain and unpleasant but totally understandable. So, I'm opening a new post, for new prompts, new fills, new comments!

What does this mean?
The original 3SF post is here, so be sure to check it out, fill anything that catches your eye, and comment on anything that delights you. But don't post any new prompts there. All new prompts go here.

How long will we do this?
I will officially close the 3SF on January 31.

Does that mean you'll close this and no one can post?
Nope. It just means that we will all move on in our lives until next year and my inbox will get a vacation to Hawaii.

Remind me again, what's the 3SF?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What's a prompt?  How do I do that?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. Banners and icons are below.

How long will it go?
We'll officially close on January 31, 2019 but I don't close the entry to comments.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
So far, as near as I can tell (and I skim most entries especially from newcomers I don't recognize) we've not had any issues. As in the past, this is too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. As a reader, use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

I have noticed that some people have posted content warnings in the first lines of their fill or in the subject line. But still, it's readers beware here. Not everyone does this and no one is under any obligation to do so.

Wow, there are so many cool people here. Can I introduce myself?
Yes, in the Friending meme.

I'm glad you liked it. Sedna's is one of my favourite myths, and I always loved that the dog she adored so much on land is implied to be her staunchest guardian once she became a goddess in the sea.

I mean this feels both appropriate and like taking the easy way out because hello trope definer. . . XD

Jim was already breathless when their minds touched but the scorching heat and the yawning desperate need driving Spock, wiping out everything else in his mind. . .

He gasped, struggling for breath, fingers digging into Spock's shoulder as he groaned, almost a growl, against Jim's neck as he bucked, hips all but crushing Jim against the dirt below them. Even with Spock so far gone there were no words in his mind - and dragging Jim rapidly past the point of no return with him - he could feel their very beings twining together with a viciously possessive pull; one he threw himself into willingly, body arching up into Spock's forcefully.

He's not consciously thought about the Labyrinth in years; not about the maze itself, although flashes of memories of Jareth pop into his mind occasionally, but when he's asleep, it's a different matter, with visions of stairs and hedges and swamps and obliettes. He sees himself in these dreams, although himself as he is now - twenty years old and taller than his sister - rather than the baby he was when he was actually there.

The dreams come more regularly as he approaches his 21st birthday, and the moment the clock strikes midnight, he sees the snow-white owl in the distance. It's exactly as he anticipated, and exactly what he feared most.

Rightfully Stolen (Jareth/Toby) x2

[personal profile] kalira 2019-01-01 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
At first the sparkle at the corner of her eye barely even caught Sarah's notice - not until she turned and her heart nearly stopped at the sight of the perfect crystal. She looked around wildly but the house was quiet and looked undisturbed - not much had changed since her last visit - save for the crystal and . . . glitter scattered around it, the window behind open a crack.

Sarah's heart squeezed painfully and she was a beat too late looking away from the crystal, snared in the vision it showed her, forming Jareth's throne room.

~

Toby leaned into his King, tilting his head up to meet mismatched eyes in a sharp face, and grinned as a long-fingered hand cupped the nape of his neck, bringing him closer still for a soft kiss.

"Your sister has discovered you missing; she is watching," Jareth breathed against his lips, and Toby shivered at the sensation, the words taking a moment longer to sink in, "she wants you back."

Toby huffed, pouting slightly and reaching up, fingers sinking into Jareth's hair to draw him down for another kiss - a better kiss. "She's too late," he said, raising his own voice, "I have always belonged here, with you."

Introduction to Chess (Castlevania; Tepes family)

"Mama? Papa? What are you doing?" Adrian asked, standing up on his tiptoes to peer over the table before big hands caught him by the waist and lifted him, giggling, to settle in his father's lap.

"Playing chess, my little one," Papa said, stroking his hair and letting him settle close, looking at the patterned board and little figures of a tiny army between them and Mama, "would you like to help your Papa face down your Mama?"

"Hey now!" Mama said, laughing softly. "That's hardly fair; don't you think so, darling?" she asked Adrian, holding out her hands to him as he giggled again and snuggled closer to Papa instead.

Sometimes Steve wakes up in the middle of the night sweating, shaking, mind stuck decades in the past as he remembers the screams, the gunfire, the blood — the men and women who died in front of him, in his arms, in search of a better future for the people left back home.

Those nightmares hurt and will no doubt hurt for as long as he lives — and isn’t it crazy that he doesn’t know how long that will be, how much longer the serum will extend his life from its natural course? — but the ones that really leave him gasping, heart pounding, are the ones that aren’t memories of war; they’re the ones of the years and the lives he missed frozen down at the bottom of the sea.

It’s the price of freedom, he knows that better than anyone, but when he sits up in bed, hands pressed to eyes that burn with unshed tears, he can’t help but wish that it was different, that there had been another better option somewhere along the way — at least one that didn’t end with him here and hurting in ways that no therapist will ever be able to touch.

Ooh, this is good – you’ve packed a lot of intensity into three sentences, and the second one in particular hits hard.

Aww, this is just irresistibly cute (and a little sad, considering where canon takes them). And of course they play chess. Of course. I love it.

I have asked that question of many people, in this city and others, and every time, the answer changes; I’ve spoken with a youth from Veilgarden, who carried a mushroom bouquet for their sweetheart and talked only of joy, and a mother in the slums of Blythenhale singing her hungry infant to sleep, and a man with a scar ringed ‘round his neck, who gave me a beatific smile and, in his cracked, quiet voice, whispered self-abnegation. Every word they told me, I carry with me, like she, one day, will carry them to the stars – and in the end, they‘re still only stories, shards of mirror-glass reflecting shards of worlds; just because something can be written in blood doesn’t make it true.

But if these fragments are all I can offer, still I tell myself that a myriad of little reflections might be enough; as for me, I believe what I must: love is the thing that breaks the Chain.

This is great — you get inside Vriska’s head perfectly, in all her fucked-upness and denial and totally not caring, really, and the why are you such a 8itch – b1tch – urgh was a fantastic touch.

Even in summer, the Beast’s castle is a chilly old pile of stones, and in winter, when the snow falls thick and fast enough to bend the trees beneath it, the only recourse is in retreat – a book, Belle thinks, a crackling fire, a pot of tea, but by the time she makes it to the library, the Beast is already there, curled in front of the fireplace with what looks to be a volume of fairy stories held in one massive paw. His claws are careful on the pages, and she realizes, watching from the doorway, that all the fear of her first days here is gone; she can’t find it anywhere, no matter how she digs, no matter that she reminds herself he’s still in some ways a stranger, and though she hadn’t planned it, she finds herself stepping forward instead of back, and saying, “Can I join you?”

“Be my guest,” the Beast says, with a low, rumbling growl that she recognizes now as a laugh, and so she does, slipping beneath his arm – bold, Belle, bold – and settling back, close enough to feel his breathing; she draws her knees up to her chest, warmth in front of her and at her back, and doesn’t think of dying roses or absent summers, only of the winding tale of a knight turned exile and the peculiar note of gentleness in the Beast’s rough voice as he starts to read aloud.

Greek Mythology, Ares/Aphrodite

She stretches and smiles as she catches him watching her curtain of hair falling down her back. She is Beauty, made to be admired, and it's nice to be noticed without having to swat away fumbling hands for once.

There is much she likes about him: he is beautiful too, in his own way, but more than that, he is Passion (like calls to like), he knows where Pain and Pleasure dip and overlap, and he doesn't fuss when others climb into her bed.

She leans across her marriage bed--but who could call being all but sacrificed to appease wounded pride and anger a proper marriage, call it Love?--and whispers an invitation for him to return before she shoves him off the bed (he laughs as he flops on the ground).

It's impossible to have a good storming off in Labyrinth. One moment, he, the damn King of this place who aught to be able to have one good dramatic exit damn it, turns on his heel and means to stride off and leave Sarah squawking in his dust. He goes to turn a corner and just finds himself on the other side of the room as Sarah whips around, staring at him in confusion.

He'd love to curse the Labyrinth blue for this petty silliness, but for now he can only pretend he meant to do this as he tosses up a hand and shouts "and one more thing-!"
