Three Sentence Ficathon -- Part 2

EDIT AS OF 2 FEBRUARY 2019 -- THE 3 SENTENCE FICATHON IS OVER!  Go ahead and read and fill anything that catches your eye and comment on fills but I'm not checking it anymore and most people have moved on so any new prompts aren't likely to get much love.

We are nearing the point that the first 3SF post, which went live on 12 December, is nearing 4,600 comments. At 5,000 comments, Dreamwidth starts demanding captcha to assure you aren't a spammer bot. It's a pain and unpleasant but totally understandable. So, I'm opening a new post, for new prompts, new fills, new comments!

What does this mean?
The original 3SF post is here, so be sure to check it out, fill anything that catches your eye, and comment on anything that delights you. But don't post any new prompts there. All new prompts go here.

How long will we do this?
I will officially close the 3SF on January 31.

Does that mean you'll close this and no one can post?
Nope. It just means that we will all move on in our lives until next year and my inbox will get a vacation to Hawaii.

Remind me again, what's the 3SF?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What's a prompt?  How do I do that?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. Banners and icons are below.

How long will it go?
We'll officially close on January 31, 2019 but I don't close the entry to comments.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
So far, as near as I can tell (and I skim most entries especially from newcomers I don't recognize) we've not had any issues. As in the past, this is too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. As a reader, use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

I have noticed that some people have posted content warnings in the first lines of their fill or in the subject line. But still, it's readers beware here. Not everyone does this and no one is under any obligation to do so.

Wow, there are so many cool people here. Can I introduce myself?
Yes, in the Friending meme.

Susan's probably my favorite character in the books (I see a lot of myself in her, what can I say) next to Edmund, so how could I not sing her praises?

As for posting them all in one place, I already have: https://archiveofourown.org/works/17269580/chapters/40612127 <---That's all the Narnia posts so far, unless I missed one. I've been putting all my fills there in a collection and on my journal, although I think I now have a couple more I need to add.

Silmarillion - Ilmarë/Thuringwethil

[personal profile] zdenka 2019-01-17 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ilmarë sits perched in a tree just within the boundaries of the dark wood. Time passes; clouds hide the moon, and she can feel the shadows gathering behind her. She knows that if she turns around, the shadows will scatter at once; but if she waits, a shadow will detach itself from the other shadows, a pair of leathery wings will wrap around her, and so long as she does not turn to look, Thuringwethil's clawed fingers will gently caress her hair.

For some reason "I shan't!" is just inherently funny to me, especially if you imagine this tiny, squeaking voice screaming it out. Thanks for commenting.

I swear, every time I go to comment on this, I get sidetracked, but no longer!

I do hope that 1 part means there's more, cause I'm greedy like that. But how can I not be, this is wonderful! I have to admit, I always just assumed that Jill and Eustace died too, but you know, I have to admit I really like the idea that they survived and they're going to go home because it's just so sad to think that their parents just got left behind and the only person who might know the truth is Susan and oh god what would she even say? Also, I love that he's "not read to abandon the laws of physics". That's literally one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Also, I ship it, so this is adorable. Thanks for the fill!

Gorgeous, evocative language, this really brings the sea to life — and I love that she is patient! All things turn with the tide, after all.

BWAHAHAHA, oh the poor Crows! How long will it take them to find the true culprits, I wonder? At least dear Jalur gets to recite all of Edmund’s titles. And as much as I love the whole crow scene, Twigs takes the cake (and the gems) — I love the twirled tail in violent disagreement, that always amuses me when I see it IRL and this greedy little sneakthief is a star!

And Harah holding out for payment! She’d be a great negotiator (union representative? Do crows go on strike?)

shameless Rthverse

“All I asked for was strawberries and clotted cream,” said Edmund weakly.

“I can see possibilities for the grapes, bananas, even the kiwis,” Morgan mused aloud, contemplating the cornucopia that used to be their bed, “but what do they expect us to do with the horned melon?”

“What worries me is the grapefruit,” Edmund responded and made such a puckered face that Morgan laughed aloud even as she made a mental note: if his imagination wasn’t up to the job, well, there was nothing she loved so much as a challenge.

Lovely, lovely language. Heart-wrenching and hopeful all in one. If I quoted every phrase I liked I’d be quoting the whole thinf back to you (the light blooming over the ocean, there is no time in the Force, where all Empires have been toppled...), so let me just say that I adore this!

Fill: Harry Potter - Memory Potion

[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake 2019-01-17 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Luna stirred the potion backwards, thrice, with a bedraggled jabberknoll feather — it wasn’t a very good stirring implement, the vanes were all out of alignment and completely incapable of creating the proper shear and vortex, and the downy barbs just trapped particulates and forget-me-not petals — but as with so many things, magic trumped simple physics.

“Thank you,” whispered Hermione from across the table, her knuckles white where they gripped her textbook (which Luna was certain Hermione had memorized, but she knew books were like old friends in times of trouble), and she was so clearly about to say something silly like “I couldn’t have done this without you” that Luna had to interrupt before Hermione let the thought escape.

“If you want your parents to drink it without an argument, you should serve it with fruitcake,” Luna announced, and in deference to Hermione’s agitated state she even explained without prompting, “they’ll be too polite to refuse to try both, you see — and no one really likes fruitcake, do they?”

Many races disliked knowing that the others underestimated them and their worth; Hobbits especially disliked the notion. Even if it allowed them to have the ability to keep secret what knowledge they knew that equaled that of the other races.

The Company and a few lucky Elves knew well enough by this point to not underestimate the King's Hobbit Consort, having proved his worth many times over.

Which is why they always placed bets on him winning the Honor Duels that the stuffy nobles - both domestic and forth – tried to force on their Hobbit and their long-suffering King; their Hobbit was more often than not the victor of these duels even as the next "noble" son or daughter tried their hand challenging the Consort Under the Mountain.

"Looks like our Hobbit wins again."

"Indeed. Better pay up thief."

"Alright, alright. Keep your shirt on guardling. Someone better tell our King that the Consort won another duel before he dies of a heart attack. Anyone wanna place bets on when the next one will be."

"Aye, we will."

"I'll take that bet."

"Brother, don't. Ma will skin you alive if she finds out that you are betting again."

"Then you'll have to make sure she doesn't find out then, won't you, brother mine?"

"Kili...."

Before everything they'd known had been nice and tidy in their world, then Stark's missiles came destroying everything in their beautiful and orderly little life.

Mother and Father were gone, leaving only her and her twin behind in the devastation, and when Hydra came with their experiments, she had learned to hate Stark and everything he supposedly stood for by then.

Through the pain, her powers were born, and the world was suddenly brighter before her eyes. She learned the scope of her newfound abilities through the experiments, Wanda made a vow that she would destroy Stark's world and everyone he had ever cared about as he had brought destruction down upon she had ever cared about in her world.
