Three Sentence Ficathon -- Part 2

EDIT AS OF 2 FEBRUARY 2019 -- THE 3 SENTENCE FICATHON IS OVER!  Go ahead and read and fill anything that catches your eye and comment on fills but I'm not checking it anymore and most people have moved on so any new prompts aren't likely to get much love.

We are nearing the point that the first 3SF post, which went live on 12 December, is nearing 4,600 comments. At 5,000 comments, Dreamwidth starts demanding captcha to assure you aren't a spammer bot. It's a pain and unpleasant but totally understandable. So, I'm opening a new post, for new prompts, new fills, new comments!

What does this mean?
The original 3SF post is here, so be sure to check it out, fill anything that catches your eye, and comment on anything that delights you. But don't post any new prompts there. All new prompts go here.

How long will we do this?
I will officially close the 3SF on January 31.

Does that mean you'll close this and no one can post?
Nope. It just means that we will all move on in our lives until next year and my inbox will get a vacation to Hawaii.

Remind me again, what's the 3SF?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What's a prompt?  How do I do that?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. Banners and icons are below.

How long will it go?
We'll officially close on January 31, 2019 but I don't close the entry to comments.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
So far, as near as I can tell (and I skim most entries especially from newcomers I don't recognize) we've not had any issues. As in the past, this is too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. As a reader, use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

I have noticed that some people have posted content warnings in the first lines of their fill or in the subject line. But still, it's readers beware here. Not everyone does this and no one is under any obligation to do so.

Wow, there are so many cool people here. Can I introduce myself?
Yes, in the Friending meme.

Kagura tilted her head back, a sweep of her fingers alongside her feather as the wind whipped at her kimono sending it soaring even higher. She reached up and unbound her hair, eyes closed as she simply . . . melted into the wind that was her home, listening to the tales it brought her as she rode its back.

Wishing she could become one with it and never, ever return to her master.

". . .did you seriously try to get yourself better faster by increasing your own temperature?" Sokka had been trying valiantly not to shout but he had the feeling he had failed.

Zuko cringed, but to be fair he'd been doing that at any sounds for days.

"You already had a fever, you great, flaming moron!" Sokka said a little more quietly, settling onto the edge of the bed again and resting a hand on Zuko's painfully hot brow. "Snow and sea, you're lucky you didn't fry your own brain."

I really love this! Harley is great and so is the overall tone.

Private Celebration (Avatar: the Last Airbender)

"Hey, Zuko? What're these?" Sokka asked, holding up the slightly battered crate he'd found tucked in an unlikely corner.

Zuko looked up, taking a moment to focus, and put his seal down - thankfully on the pad of ink where it belonged. "Ah. . . Unused fireworks from the celebration festival."

"Unused fireworks. Right." Sokka nodded, then stilled. "Wait, fireworks? Could we. . ." he trailed off with a vaguely hopeful lilt as Zuko's stare hardened, then he rolled his eyes, lips quirking towards a smile, and nodded as he rose, holding out a hand.

That might possibly work for an infected cut, if you can't do anything else. I wouldn't recommend it. It will not work for the flu.

The Hobbit, Post Everyone lives canon

On AO3

The slap was unexpected and loud, drawing the attention of the entire camp, covering his stinging cheek, Bilbo looked up with wide eyes at the Dwarf warrior towering over him.

"What in the name of Mahal do you think you are doing, Burglar?" Loibir snarled through clenched teeth.

"It is cold, Master Loibir. Surely it is acceptable to huddle with another member of the Company for warmth?" Bilbo asked, ignoring the sting of tears in his eyes.

"Not when it is, my King. Who knows what evil ideas you might have planned in that little head of yours?" Loibir growled.

"Enough."

Thorin pushed his way between them with Dwalin and Balin at his back. Their faces all seemed to be made of hardened stone as they stared at the Dwarf who recoiled from them.

"What right you do have to decide what my One can and cannot do?" Thorin asked calmly as the Dwarf in front of them paled, his dark eyes sliding between Bilbo and Thorin.

"Forgive me, my Lord. I did not know that the Hobbit was your One. I -"

Thorin cuts the Dwarf off by giving orders to Dwalin and Balin to handle his punishment as he turns to Bilbo and gently leads him to the other side of the game where he curls protectively around the Hobbit.

Ooh, this is lovely and sad, and a very nice take on Kagura’s perspective.

Aww, this is great--it feels in character and it's lovely to see the start of the close knit group.

Labyrinth, Jareth-->Sarah

[personal profile] last_haven 2019-01-10 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Pinch it with your middle and fore finger and then--twist," he tells her and to his surprise, Sarah gets it on the first try. A perfect crystal orb, delicate as frost, appears in her fingers and he'd almost be proud if it wasn't for the fact that he looks into the crystal and sees her. But not as she is now--just a tad older, eyes wiser and none so innocent, dressed like a daydream and wearing a familiar medallion, the mark of royalty, on her cleavage.

Sarah pouts at it as she examines the dream, "damn, that's not what I want to be at all. Where'd I go wrong?"

Jareth takes a moment and wonders if he should be grateful she has no idea whose Dream she's holding or crushed at her words. No matter how many years since she ran the Labyrinth, she can still be so cruel, he grumbles to himself as he sweeps his hand forward and shatters the spell himself.

Chronicles of Narnia

1. For Lucy, there was never a moment of wavering, never a sliver of uncertainty. Her faith was more reliable the sun or the tides. Sometimes, it humbled the others, but others it just exasperated them and she was at times left alone, holding her belief like a beacon in the dark.

2. Peter tried to be faithful. He was humble enough to admit that sometimes he fumbled, that he followed the letter rather than the spirit of the word. But in the trembling dark, when it was easiest to falter, Peter kept his faith with him, a life preserver to pull him back to safety.

3. Edmund would be first to admit that he was one to first falter. But he was also the first to find his way back. Edmund kept faith and doubt in his heart and used it to make him kind.

4. Susan kept her faith in her mouth, hidden under her tongue where no one could snatch it away so carelessly. She kept her smile closed and tight lipped because it was a fragile thing, abused again and again, and a sharp word would protect it, even if it meant she had to stumble in the dark without the light. It was only fitting that a kiss (a lifetime of kisses) was the thing to draw it out of her, to let it shine the way back.

5. It was not a competition, their faiths. Despite bitter words, it was never supposed to be a condemnation on each other's souls. So when Susan joins them once more, faith as bright and steady as theirs ever was, they shine together, four bright stars in a constellation again.
