Three Sentence Ficathon -- Part 2

EDIT AS OF 2 FEBRUARY 2019 -- THE 3 SENTENCE FICATHON IS OVER!  Go ahead and read and fill anything that catches your eye and comment on fills but I'm not checking it anymore and most people have moved on so any new prompts aren't likely to get much love.

We are nearing the point that the first 3SF post, which went live on 12 December, is nearing 4,600 comments. At 5,000 comments, Dreamwidth starts demanding captcha to assure you aren't a spammer bot. It's a pain and unpleasant but totally understandable. So, I'm opening a new post, for new prompts, new fills, new comments!

What does this mean?
The original 3SF post is here, so be sure to check it out, fill anything that catches your eye, and comment on anything that delights you. But don't post any new prompts there. All new prompts go here.

How long will we do this?
I will officially close the 3SF on January 31.

Does that mean you'll close this and no one can post?
Nope. It just means that we will all move on in our lives until next year and my inbox will get a vacation to Hawaii.

Remind me again, what's the 3SF?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What's a prompt?  How do I do that?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. Banners and icons are below.

How long will it go?
We'll officially close on January 31, 2019 but I don't close the entry to comments.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
So far, as near as I can tell (and I skim most entries especially from newcomers I don't recognize) we've not had any issues. As in the past, this is too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. As a reader, use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

I have noticed that some people have posted content warnings in the first lines of their fill or in the subject line. But still, it's readers beware here. Not everyone does this and no one is under any obligation to do so.

Wow, there are so many cool people here. Can I introduce myself?
Yes, in the Friending meme.

Persephone/Hades

[personal profile] archersangel 2019-01-07 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
The "abduction" had been her idea, she knew her mother would never let any suitor take her away.

Especially not the God of the Dead whose realm was underground where the bright, warm sun did not reach.

Hades loved and adored his bride, but his heart broke whenever she called out for her mother in her sleep.

Aw, this is lovely, thank you! It's interesting to see that even a willing (or rather, perhaps, willful) Persephone can still get homesick. It makes her feel relatable to me.

Madoka Magica, Homura

[personal profile] last_haven 2019-01-07 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Her arm felt so strange without the familiar weight of the shield on it; she could learn to hate how disconnected, how powerless she felt without it.

But the bow, the firm weight of it in her hands, helped ground her again. Taking a breath, she pulls the magic back until it forms a string, nearly kissing her cheek before she whispers Madoka's name like a prayer and lets the attack fly.

She doesn't miss; it's almost worth it.

Oh, someone talking about Sedna? Hot damn, sign me up. Man, I almost forgot there was a version with her and a dog--I usually hear the bird one more. What an unusual treat.

Ah, I'm so glad I decided to go back through and poke around in some of the past fills. This is fun--I like Persephone going out of her way to try brighten up everything and everyone even if it is a bit of a struggle.

Narnia is not in any wardrobe or painting Susan ever checks; it's not to be found in a pair of rings, recovered from the Crash, or the Wood between Worlds with it's dried up hollows of earth.

It's not in any bottle, any sermon, any book, or any secret out-of-the-way place she can think of.

So, it's a surprise when she finds it the hand of a kind lover, an eager ear to hear her woes, and in the gentle grace of a kiss that leads her to make peace with half forgotten memories of a childhood game that was not--in truth--ever just a game.

Susan finds her way back to paradise only when she opens her heart to it.

Fallen London x Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

[personal profile] tehsharkie 2019-01-07 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone knows how the clock tower sank into the Thames during the Fall - meanwhile, the infamous ale-house named Pineapple had partially collapsed into what had formerly been the Fleet River - indeed, the two seemed to have merged, as Heaven onto Earth after the end times, or the sewers onto Hell right now.

Business had been a struggle for the first few years; however, younger Londoners had noted Pineapple's charming resemblance to a tomb-colonist battling a Zee monster, pinched their noses, and accepted fungal interpretations of ale. Ruins belong to the Raven King, even a mile underground, but he would need to wrest these particular ruins from an unnervingly adaptable proprietor and a horde of damp, drunk journalists.

Only Jareth would have the gall to compliment Sarah by referencing that time he totally freaked her out and tricked her AND almost ruined her and Hoggle's friendship. And to make it worse, he's actually charming about it.

I love this.

I can't say that she was the first person I thought of--because holy cow, I can't even remember the last time I read up on her, although I know I have looked her up at least once--but I can definitely see where a comparison can come from.

Thank you for commenting.

Fjorm's eyes light up when she sees the archery stand, flanked by shelves of plush dolls and bright balloons. "Oh, how delightful! That one looks like Feh. Would you like one?"

Laevatein frowns, just slightly. "... Why?"

Fjorm tests the weight of an arrow. "I think you would look very cute with one. Have you never had a doll before?"

Before, all Laevatein had was a sparse bedroom and Laevatein's cold sheath. Whenever Fjorm spoke of her childhood memories of sneaking into Gunnthra's room after a nightmare, or letting Ylgr into hers, Laevatein could never relate. She wonders now, if Laegjarn would have let her if she had tried?

At any rate, Fjorm always looks sad when she mentions anything like that. And she doesn't like to see Fjorm look sad.

"No," she says, after maybe her silence has stretched too long.

Fjorm nods decisively. "In that case, I shall win you one now. Which one would you like?"

She shrugs and points at the one that Fjorm had singled out earlier. "That one."

She doesn't really mind, honestly. One soft toy is the same as the next. But Fjorm beams at her before turning to the stall once more. In a single smooth motion, she nocks the arrow and takes aim at the clusters of little balloons pinned to the back wall. "Then Feh you shall have!"

^.^ Oo? I have literally never come across a version with a bird, only the dog one, and I really love her story. (Then again I hardly come across anything about Sedna, even when looking, mostly.)

I keep idly skimming through earlier pages from time to time (of course, then occasionally I get ideas for prompts in earlier pages as well. . .) and keep happily finding new things. Thanks! Persephone is a determined woman, wherever she is. XP

Irritatingly, impossibly, inconveniently charming . . . suits Jareth. And it seems he makes a habit of this one, if Sarah's "you have a problem" is on track, heh.

Thank you~

(Sidebar, I'm loving all these Disney lyric prompts you left! Thanks so much for them XD)

By the time Sinbad is seventeen, he's already changed from an illiterate fisherman's son to a grand hero with the power to move mountains and change the world- why not capitalize on it a little? His books are grand and all, but the people prefer a play. It's sensational, and, when he plays his part autobiographically, he can use that world shaking magic to delight and astound all those who watch and dream that one day they two can make a difference. The stage makes the fiction of his life grand, washing away the pain of loss and the guilt of the failures he cannot voice, and the warm glow of the crowd's smiles feels like the sun on his face.
