Three Sentence Ficathon -- Part 2

EDIT AS OF 2 FEBRUARY 2019 -- THE 3 SENTENCE FICATHON IS OVER!  Go ahead and read and fill anything that catches your eye and comment on fills but I'm not checking it anymore and most people have moved on so any new prompts aren't likely to get much love.

We are nearing the point that the first 3SF post, which went live on 12 December, is nearing 4,600 comments. At 5,000 comments, Dreamwidth starts demanding captcha to assure you aren't a spammer bot. It's a pain and unpleasant but totally understandable. So, I'm opening a new post, for new prompts, new fills, new comments!

What does this mean?
The original 3SF post is here, so be sure to check it out, fill anything that catches your eye, and comment on anything that delights you. But don't post any new prompts there. All new prompts go here.

How long will we do this?
I will officially close the 3SF on January 31.

Does that mean you'll close this and no one can post?
Nope. It just means that we will all move on in our lives until next year and my inbox will get a vacation to Hawaii.

Remind me again, what's the 3SF?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What's a prompt?  How do I do that?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. Banners and icons are below.

How long will it go?
We'll officially close on January 31, 2019 but I don't close the entry to comments.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
So far, as near as I can tell (and I skim most entries especially from newcomers I don't recognize) we've not had any issues. As in the past, this is too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. As a reader, use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

I have noticed that some people have posted content warnings in the first lines of their fill or in the subject line. But still, it's readers beware here. Not everyone does this and no one is under any obligation to do so.

Wow, there are so many cool people here. Can I introduce myself?
Yes, in the Friending meme.

Manifest, Lourdes/Jared and Michaela

[personal profile] tellshannon815 2019-01-06 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Lourdes had chosen in the moment to believe Michaela when she said she'd been going to turn down Jared's proposal, that she gave Lourdes and Jared's marriage her blessing, because she wanted so badly for it to be true.

Yet now Jared's sharing secrets with Michaela that he won't share with her, he's getting into trouble at work because of one of the many secrets have become a part of their lives since Flight 828 mysteriously returned after 5 years, and now he's lying in the hospital because of who knows what situation Michaela has involved him in, he's calling Michaela's name instead of hers and some nurse even tried to turn her away because "his wife was already there"?

Lourdes is Jared's wife, yet she feels like she, and not Michaela, is the other woman in their relationship.

Person of Interest, Harold gen

[personal profile] reeby10 2019-01-06 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite the many advantages wrought by living in a city as large and diverse as New York City, it was surprisingly difficult to find a good cup of Sencha green tea — and Harold had tried every place that served it in his efforts because he was, if anything, thorough and determined in every one of his efforts.

When he first came across the cart in the park, he’d been quite doubtful about the quality because, well, it was a cart in the park serving what was, even in New York, a fairly rare type of Japanese tea that few could appreciate the true beauty of. But as soon as he saw the dark green hue of the tea — so much darker than any other place had served during his search — he felt the exciting beginnings of hope, and then when the steaming liquid hit his tongue for the first time, bright and green and just a little sweet, he knew that he’d found the perfect cup of Sencha.
cofax7: Lantern Waste in the snow (Narnia - Lantern)

[personal profile] cofax7 2019-01-06 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
For generations after the Four left Narnia, the borders held; a succession of Fauns, Centaurs, and Badgers (primarily) stood as Stewards of Cair Parvel, holding the throne, with Aslan's blessing, in the name of the High King. They kept the trade with Archenland, Terebinthia, and even Calormen open; raised levies to patrol the north against Giant incursions; and minted dwarf silver into coins embossed with the Lion on one side and the profile of the High King on the other.

But in the thirteenth year of the rule of the Steward Vernus, a drought began which bedeviled both all of southern Narnia but also Archenland and the lands to the west -- and within two seasons the refugees began to arrive, stumbling down from the pass to Telmar with naught but the bundles in their hands and the clothes on their backs.

“Tea towels?” Edmund echoed, a trace of the old petulance in his voice, and Mrs. Beaver slapped her tail on the earthen floor.

“Yes, tea towels — this is a civilized country after all — or it was until the Witch got her nasty cold fingers all over it, and I dare say it shall be again under Your Majesties.”

And so the sheep were called from the fields, and the Dwarves took up their looms, and Cair Paravel was festooned with new tapestries, draperies, lace, linens and yes, tea towels... but Edmund was forced to set his foot down when he found Lucy inflicting a knobbly knitted sweater upon a young elm (“You’ve got to ask the Draiad first, Lu!” was his excuse, but he should have foreseen the consequences, for his sister was much beloved by the Royal Wood, and so it was Edmund who had to explain to the coronation guests that no, Narnian trees were not still cold after one hundred years of winter, they were just enjoying a good yarn).

I'd like to bed you.

Derek's breath caught and he had to shove down his leaping heart, fingers tightening around his phone as he lowered it. It was a stupid autocorrect in the middle of a conversation the context of which made it incredibly easy to see, but. . . Derek sighed.

~

"What's got you looking like that, Sourwolf?" Stiles asked, trotting into Derek's house and his kitchen openly. Derek glanced at his phone, then reached out for it, but in his desire not to seem too concerned-

Stiles snatched it up and Derek whined. "Damn autocorrect, I know, it's-"

"No, no, I meant that," Stiles said with a grin, tossing Derek's phone back at him and laughing as he only barely caught it before it hit his chest, gaping, "Sourwolf you didn't seem to notice we've been dating for weeks, so I thought . . . more direct approach?"

“Toad,” groaned Ginny, “the bloody dwarf said toad,” and Luna watched with wide eyes as her friend proceeded to hit her head on one of the densest objects known to wizardkind: Bathilda Bagshot’s Hogwarts, A History.

“Didn’t you want to compare Harry’s eyes to a fresh-pickled toad?” asked Luna before immediately amending her own statement: “No, of course not, pickled toads are too sallow, Harry’s eyes are a more vivid green, like a poisonous dart frog — or pond scum!”

“Lush grass freshly mowed,” Ginny mumbled into the tome, “it was supposed to be grass — and don’t even get me started on the blackboard!”

This is too perfect! Both their voices are spot on, and while I can certainly see sudoku being Seven’s favorite kind of puzzle, I’m with Naomi on this one - math doesn’t count as fun!

Oooooh, Luke, that is a terrible idea hahaha. Much more dangerous than the drinking games themselves. It’s hilarious and I want to know what happens when Mara inevitably finds out — probably some non-Force deduction that Luke never anticipates, lol.

Infinite Re-Dos ( Black Mirror: Bandersnatch — Colin & Stefan )

[personal profile] oceanose 2019-01-07 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
( CW: Mentions + Implications of Violence )

They’d unicycled, bicycled, through every form of life-ending arrangement that Colin’s omnipresent, unnetted mind was familiar with and Stefan’s spinning plate of a mind was not—this death may have been dealt blunt at one point in time, for whatever time was worth, the silly concept, but the memory had escalated and deescalated and fucking contorted into something close the predictable for them both, however much of it Stefan could trust himself to remember, that was: there was something sharp at one point, a bludgeoning, something soft, a drowning, and those rare few timelines where no one had to die at all.

Stefan wore the same size shoe as his father but the insoles of his weren’t soaked through and growing more soppy by the second, and dad had it easy because his part in the story had already finished, been finished, while Stefan had no choice but to go on, and on, and on with Colin as his tour guide, campy Hawaiian shirt patterned floral (though he could have sworn it was grey last time), and a guidebook poised at the ready to point out the landmarks in this run-through.

When Stefan said it was time for Colin to get it in a way he hadn't tried before—that too awake, too aware Colin in a string of infinite Colins—he suggested they lie down instead: that damned Colin suggested they keep each other warm in the moments leading up the killing joke.

Ancient Magus Bride, Elias+Ruth, "They should have just asked for help"

[personal profile] last_haven 2019-01-07 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ruth pauses, whisk still in hand as he glances up at Elias and frowns, asking "what?"

Elias just holds up the recipe book--an ancient book as cooking books went, but compared to some of his other tomes, he had thought it'd be modern enough for a good cake recipe. "It said two dozen eggs."

Pursing his lips, Ruth leaned forward to glare at the book, not that it really did him much good, considering that it was filthy in spots and the fact that he couldn't read. "How many people is this cake supposed to be for?"

Elias flipped the book back around, read the page once more, and then reached up to scratch away a bit of caked on food from the page. "...two eggs," he declared as he cleared his throat. "Let's try two instead."

A Stiff Drink ( Dragon Age — Isabela & Aveline )

[personal profile] oceanose 2019-01-07 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
They share seafoam words between sips of something warm and wonder who will be willing to break first.

Isabela holds her cup with her entire upper body; her elbows braced outward on the table as if ready to strong-arm anyone who comes near enough to give the illusion of starting trouble, she nurses the delicate, certainly Orlesian porcelain as if coddling a growler, guarded as if some jackarse might come stumbling around the corner and knock it from her hand, guarded as if it isn’t just she and Aveline alone in this instance.

Aveline holds hers like a snake, like a toothpick, like she's forgot how—like she’s certain to destroy its gifted, painted flowers if she grips too tightly and she's all too aware of it.
