Three Sentence Ficathon -- Part 2

EDIT AS OF 2 FEBRUARY 2019 -- THE 3 SENTENCE FICATHON IS OVER!  Go ahead and read and fill anything that catches your eye and comment on fills but I'm not checking it anymore and most people have moved on so any new prompts aren't likely to get much love.

We are nearing the point that the first 3SF post, which went live on 12 December, is nearing 4,600 comments. At 5,000 comments, Dreamwidth starts demanding captcha to assure you aren't a spammer bot. It's a pain and unpleasant but totally understandable. So, I'm opening a new post, for new prompts, new fills, new comments!

What does this mean?
The original 3SF post is here, so be sure to check it out, fill anything that catches your eye, and comment on anything that delights you. But don't post any new prompts there. All new prompts go here.

How long will we do this?
I will officially close the 3SF on January 31.

Does that mean you'll close this and no one can post?
Nope. It just means that we will all move on in our lives until next year and my inbox will get a vacation to Hawaii.

Remind me again, what's the 3SF?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What's a prompt?  How do I do that?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. Banners and icons are below.

How long will it go?
We'll officially close on January 31, 2019 but I don't close the entry to comments.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
So far, as near as I can tell (and I skim most entries especially from newcomers I don't recognize) we've not had any issues. As in the past, this is too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. As a reader, use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

I have noticed that some people have posted content warnings in the first lines of their fill or in the subject line. But still, it's readers beware here. Not everyone does this and no one is under any obligation to do so.

Wow, there are so many cool people here. Can I introduce myself?
Yes, in the Friending meme.

Thank you so much! ^.^ I'm delighted to hear that; this AU was definitely an accident but it's . . . intriguing. I'll keep on as long as I can keep thinking of bits that fit the feeling and style and . . . odd new Harry (and Voice).

. . .that is true, I may try and do that then, esp. if you don't mind as it is all tailed on your prompt as well. XD

Thank you very much! ^.^ Psh, that voice is totally fine and 100% innocent, clearly. ;)

Harry's Voice (part 6)

[personal profile] kalira 2019-01-03 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"GRYFFINDOR!"

Harry was shaking before the hat screamed directly around his head, and he slid off the stool hurriedly as soon as Professor McGonagall removed it from his head. It took him a moment to figure out where he was supposed to go, rattled by the uncomfortable feeling and even more so by the lack of his own Voice in his head.

Of course, the shrieking and jumping from the red-and-gold table jogged his memory quick enough, and he shook his head and moved that way, catching a glimpse of the sharp pout on Malfoy's face as he walked between the tables.

Relaxation (Naruto; Madara/Tobirama)

[personal profile] kalira 2019-01-03 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Madara awoke already purring, shivering a little under Tobirama's hands, but otherwise didn't move. Except for his hair, twisting and curling lovingly around Tobirama's wrists, bright crimson eyes heavy-lidded but still watching him and fanged mouths curled into lazy smiles.

Tobirama tugged, gently-rough, at one particularly languid lock, and the entire mass squirmed as Madara let out a long, low moan, all but melting into the bed.

(I had just begun an AU where Madara's hair is an eldritch horror on January 1st, shortly before I saw this prompt. I had to write a bit of it to drop here. XD)

Chronicles of Narnia, Susan

[personal profile] last_haven 2019-01-03 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear Susan,

My, how long has it been since I've thought of you, let alone been you. I'm sure this will sound very silly and very immature of me, writing a letter to you, my child self. It's not like you shall ever receive this letter, but, all the same, I find myself wanting to speak to you, to warn and encourage.

First off, cherish your siblings--yes, even when Lucy follows you everywhere, even when Edmund steals your chocolates, even when Peter bosses you about, going on about how he is the eldest. You'll never know how lonely you will find yourself, when you turn to ask Edmund a question, whisper a secret to Peter, or tell a joke to Lucy, only to find them gone and then remember that they've been that way for years.

Kiss your mother every chance and listen to everything she tells you; you're going to need to remember it all when you're young, because she won't be able to tell you about it when you get to be older, and she has so much to say. There's so much I wish I had asked her.

As for your father, don't worry--yes, he will come home to you all. Love and cherish him too because you're going to miss him, his voice, even the smell of tobacco in the evenings.

Cherish your friends as well; some will come and go, but keep Penny and Mary close to your heart because they won't abandon you, ever. And Laura, oh, enjoy your time with Laura while you can--she'll remain in your heart, always. And you will make other friends--oh, you wouldn't believe some of the friends you make, but they will be dear to you.

I do not mean to sound all doom and gloom--I promise, there will come a time that the bombings stop, that you'll get to grow up and get to chose what do with your life and no one will be able to take that from you. That last bit might sound odd to you, but as you grow, you'll understand it better and it'll be reassuring then.

You'll not be alone forever; you will have friends and acquaintances that will make it all bearable.

And yes, you will find yourself someone to grow old with. It may not be quite someone you would expect at your age, but times will not always be unkind to you two. What was not spoken of in the past is so commonplace now; my heart is warmer now because of it than I'd ever hoped. You'll know her when you meet her, I promise. Grace is going to love and care for you so much. And help you with so, so many things.

Which brings me to the last point. It's very important, Susan, so pay attention. Very shortly, you will leave for the country, to escape the bombings--I know this Professor Diggory might sound a little off putting, but he's really a very good man, if a bit rough around the edges. Mum told you all it will be an adventure and the truth is that she is right. Just keep an open mind about it--before and after. Especially after. Even if it hurts. Because if you don't

If you don't

Well, remember what I said. Oh, and don't feel bad when you can't stop checking the backs of closets and wardrobes, even if you know it only brings you grief. You're just human, Susan, and that's all you have to be--that might be the most important thing Grace has taught me.

And most of all, remember this--while little girls might pretend to be a princess, you are a queen, and always will be. Always.

With all my love and hope,
Susan

A/N: sorry to kind of hijack this prompt, but I promised that I'd look for a prompt to make a sequel to another fill of mine and this sounded like the perfect chance. Hope you don't mind!

Critical Role

[personal profile] reccyls 2019-01-04 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's so stupid; they've had a memorial for him already, a big public one in Whitestone and then a smaller heavier one in the remains of Greyskull Keep, eulogized him, toasted to him, bought him a drink every round they had that night, sitting untouched at the corner of the table as they muddled through grief-drunkennness with fond memories and choking farewells.

They've done all that, and it's staring at a wonky braid and crumpled feather in the mirror that makes the worst kind of tears burn in Vex's eyes, because Vax is gone and she'll never hear him say, "Come here, Stubby," before taking her hair in his hands and deftly fixing whatever it is she'd messed up, never feel the familiar comfort of pressing her back up against him to remind herself that not everything was taken away from her the day Bryoden burned.

She pulls her hair out of the lumpy braid, and just leaves it simply tied back, instead.

Trying to write post-canon Susan is always going to be bittersweet at best (canon is rough on poor Su). I'm glad you liked this though, thanks for commenting.

It's so hard to write hesitation or fumbling for words in epistolary stories, (cause most people wouldn't logically write "..." in their letters unless they were super dramatic) but I think striking out lines works best for it, so I like to abuse that when I can.

Thank you for commenting.

Impossible Things (Alice in Wonderland)

[personal profile] kalira 2019-01-04 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"You're impossible!" Alice says to the tiny kitten that shouldn't exist - not in this world.. It simply grins at her, a wide, crescent grin, its striped tail waving behind itself as sharp eyes remain locked with her own.

And because impossible things have always been Alice's favourite, she opens her arms to the little Cheshire kitten in her garden, and walks back up the path crooning to it.

Fill: Fire Emblem, Micaiah

[personal profile] runespoor 2019-01-04 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
It takes Micaiah a long time to become herself, and it's a self that only half-belongs to her, like the moon and her light, half what she made it and half what people imagine; the person remembered in history books won't have her selfishness, and depending on the author or the time or the politics at play, she'll be a coward or a hero, a monster or a victim, an idealist or a ruthless pragmatist, a conwoman or a prophet, but no matter the quill she won't be remembered as that loner who lived on the roads, only trying to survive, and whom the wings of war might not have touched at all if not for the way it misplaced her only human attachment, that boy who in time would become her consort.

History remembers the deaths she caused and the lives she saved, the war she won and the peace that turned into poison, the war she almost lost and the peace she tended to until the country calls it "a silver time", silver thought more precious than gold, her strangest legacy - it remembers her a fortune-teller, a resistance leader, a figurehead, a general, and the Silver Queen of Daein.

It doesn't remember the girl who chose to care, after decades of numb survival; it doesn't remember that the woman leading Daein to the dawn had stepped out of ashes of her own - but does it truly matter: history remembers the dawn.
