Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

I love Helen as an idea/ideal vs a real person - such is the nature of stories, and how exhausting to be a symbol to everyone, and an individual to so few.

Gotham, Alfred Pennyworth

From the moment Thomas and Martha Wayne had asked if he would stand as guardian, Alfred had vowed he would do whatever it took to protect Master Bruce.

Even in the days immediately following Master Bruce's killing of Ra's al Ghul, when he was determined to push him away, Alfred was equally determined never to give up on him.

Now he's beginning to wonder if the day has come when Master Bruce is leaving him behind.

Oo, this is lovely and so . . . open and hopeful? It has an unusual tone for out-of-Narnia Susan but it's wonderful. <3

I wasn't overly enamored by the Netflix Troy series for ah, obvious reasons (I shook my head in disbelief when Paris of all people, defeats Hektor in the first episode), but I loved the casting -- especially the fact that their Helen, IMO, pretty but not spectacularly lovely and you got the impression her beauty had been exaggerated for the Achaeans' own purposes.

He sits at the window and watches his mountains even now, dark in the distance and lost to him beyond all hope. But there is enough to draw his attention away: Costis' long-suffering silence that speaks a hundred volumes, the chime of Irene's earrings, the sound of his daughter's laughter.

His heart is full at last, so full that the weight of it holds him fast like an anchor.

It was a quiet night at Frankie's, and for once the alcohol seemed to be putting Phil into a contemplative mood instead of dragging him deeper into his usual pit of angry guilt and self-loathing, but any illusion Julius might have held about this state of affairs being an improvement was dispelled when he passed what had become Phil's habitual seat at the bar on his way to begin another round of bussing tables only for Phil to reach out, garb him by the arm, pull him close (and probably would have pulled himself right off the barstool in the process if Julius had tried to fight him), and ask, "Why did you keep loving your mother?" in a tone of voice which was equal parts bitter and baffled and made it all too clear that what Phil was really asking was, "Why, when vampirism stripped every last shred of human decency out of you, did you go and turn your mother and keep her by your side for all of those years instead of tearing her to pieces at the first opportunity and reveling in the bloodshed the way I did with my children?"

Julius had asked himself that same question more times than he could count in the weeks since being cured, but he had never been able to come up with an explanation that made any sense when held up to the light alongside everything else he knew about vampires, and he was sure that any of his guesses would only make Phil hate himself more anyway, so he left those thoughts unsaid. All he could do was gently pry Phil's fingers off his wrist while saying, "I don't know, Phil; I just somehow did," and go back around the bar to pour the man another drink.

For years Sarah pretended it wasn't there, shadowing her wherever she went - or was it the other way around, that it was where it belonged, and she had never quite returned?

The music was eerie, tempting and beautiful, filled with the same playful power that lit in a fae king's eyes, but this, unlike those strange eyes . . . it was aimed at nothing, existing only for the pure pleasure of its own being.

It proved far harder to resist, and while Sarah fought her own impulses for years, tried drowning out the otherworldly music with its Aboveground imitations, eventually . . . Sarah simply closed her eyes and turned, taking her first step wherever that music would lead, towards its heart - towards the Underground once more.

Thank you! I've always felt that at least some part of Zuko must have known what Ozai meant when the terms of banishment were "you can come back with the Avatar in chains" when the Avatar hadn't been seen for nearly a hundred years; he just couldn't admit it to himself. But I also think he would have made himself admit it, and admit he'd been lying to himself and suppressing it, after he heard the plans for the Comet.

Thank you, I'm glad he's in character! Honestly I think they really are lies he told himself, not mistakes - or, well, mistakes only in the sense that it usually is a mistake to lie to yourself. Even siding with Azula is a lie in the sense that Zuko has said before Azula always lies, and here he seems to be telling himself Azula's not lying this time. (In fact, I always thought Zuko got really lucky that Azula actually upheld her end of things and reported to Ozai such that Zuko got his banishment rescinded.)
