caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

There'd been a time before witches, but Homura only knew about it because she'd asked the right question, once, back when the Incubator was still trying to lay out the rules of science and the universe.

"Entropy is only because of living things," the Incubator explained, "but once things live, the universe begins to decay; witches weren't necessary before that, but now they'll always be, forever after."

Homura wished she'd never asked, and so she went back to a time when she hadn't.

At the Window (morning after)

(I wound up feeling like there should be some kind of continuation at least to confirm that Roy is going to be all right, so this happened.)

As soon he as wakes Roy tries to sit up only to instantly regret it, sharply reminded of the injuries he'd carried away from his battle the night before as his ribs scream in pain.

"So now that you're awake and I am certain you are not going to die," Riza says above him, and he startles, opening his eyes to find her sitting at the edge of the bed he is resting in - hers? - her eyes soft with concern despite her cool tone and sharp words, "could I impose upon you to explain?"

Roy opens his mouth, wincing, then closes it and tentatively shifts - triggering a weak coughing fit - to lean his cheek against her thigh; Riza frowns at him, but only wipes the blood from his mouth with a gentle touch and then lets her hand settle in his hair.

Poor Roy indeed! I didn't mean to leave on such a 'gah!' moment but . . . three sentences. XD You're welcome, glad you do!

(And I still added a second piece because wow I wanted to confirm Roy's not, you know, dying or anything.)

Of course Neal recognises her; the infamous Sophie Devereaux (or whatever name she's going by this time) is a legend in his world, and he's dreamed of working with her for years.

He approaches her with his most charming smile, a pair of champagne flutes, and an invitation to Museo del Prado in Madrid.

"The Matisse?" she asks, slipping her arm into his and bringing the glass to her lips.

He shakes his head and smiles. "The Rembrandt."

Anything in the hands of his ennemies, he coveted. The tyrannical power with which his father ruled over his family, the Joestars' riches, men and women's bodies, followers and their worship, he'll have all that and more until he can sleep peacefully.

They may call him damned, undeserving of Heaven, he'll just have to take that too.

The bed is far too small for the three of them, but this whatever it was was new enough that none of them wanted to discuss the permanence of buying a new one.

It had its advantages though, Eliot thought, tugging Parker closer to him, her bare back warm against his front. Behind him, he felt Hardison (Alec, he reminded himself) tentatively curl himself into Eliot's own naked warmth; reaching back for Alec's hand, he intertwined their fingers and kissed his knuckles.
