caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

It will be different this time. Marth’s memories are fuzzy, like Sheeda’s, as though what they see in dreams happened to other people, so they’re not sure what decisions they’d made, what path they took; they do remember Kris wasn’t there, though.

So they follow Kris, in the hope that it can avoid the turning and death of one they call friend, and a second war upon Archanea only two years after the first.

Oh, this is just fantastic! You've really captured the charm of FE in that first paragraph. As I was reading through, I was internally going "oh man, that has to be Binding Blade. Oh wait, is that Radiant Dawn? Sacred Stones? Oh, oh, that could be Awakening! Shadow Dragon! AAAAH"

It really hit me with a rush of nostalgia, haha. I loved this, and I'm definitely interested in seeing your other takes on this prompt!

This is so lovely! I haven't played FE3/12 but I do vaguely know about what happens to some of the characters from the prequel. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but this is pretty chilling to think about, oh wow. You're really able to see Marth's personality shine through in how much he puts his trust in his friends, Kris especially. I love this! <3

Fire Emblem, FE2/15

Saber is about to step forward when Celica’s shout stops him. "Saber, don’t !"

And Saber will readily profess that he’s kind of an asshole, but ignoring the girl you swore to protect is not a great look, so he glances back – over his shoulder, really, trying to convey that this a skirmish and yeah, he’s good, but an explanation better be forthcoming, as Celica hired him to sword down would-be attackers, and these, as it happens, attacked.

"I just –" her hand jerks to point a place maybe a meter away, "- you should go there, it’s a better angle to defend."

He arches an eyebrow. "It’s your long experience in these matters that lets you know, huh." He still goes to stand at the place she said – it’s a bit farther from the third guy than what he’d picked first, but nothing he can’t cross in a minute, if need be. The kids can hold their own against that one guy, and, though he’d rather not dwell, she looks badly frazzled.

"Thank you," she breathes, and she puts away her strange clock thingy.

Weird, Saber acknowledges, but again, that’s just one more thing the priestess isn’t telling, so he files her look of relief away. (He already knows someday he’ll confront her with it, but he’s not willing to admit to himself just yet that he’s in deeper than just a contractor.)

Sypha cleared her throat and threw a sidelong glance at Trevor, who looked unusually put-upon -- it wasn't like it was his childhood home that had suddenly gone up in dust. "Well, Alucard, in light of Dracula's castle -- exploding? -- d'you want to come with us? You can clean up later."

It will take ten thousand years for Hikaru to reach Sai, give or take (or - maybe half that: Hikaru has Akira, after all). And countless games.

Hikaru puts down an opening move that he knows would've made Sai scream, just for fun, and starts working toward infinity.
