caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

“Eustace has a girlfriend,” Alberta announced with all the joy and pride of a mother alligator watching its young scamper off to eat or be eaten (or drowned or run over) — which is to say, very little, for Alberta believed a good mother should be Detached, not Doting — and anyway you look at it, thought Eustace, she was mostly wrong.

“I heard him talking about...” Alberta lowered her voice, “hips” and Eustace smothered a snort of laughter, because Alberta would probably disapprove of his interest in dinosaurian anatomy even more than an interest in, er, female anatomy.

In any case, Harold merely grunted and hunched into his newspaper and muttered something about starting at the wrong end, and Eustace wished Pole could be there to see the look on Alberta’s face.

What Eustace didn’t see was the look on Alberta’s face after he returned to his anatomical studies, when Harold grunted again and rustled his newspaper and reached out a sly hand to pinch his wife. “Maybe the boy has the right end of things for a change,” he muttered, and Alberta giggled like a schoolgirl.

What Eustace also didn’t see was the look on Alberta’s face when she was preparing dinner and contemplating the empty sugar bowl; as a rule she despised all things saccharine, and as a rule she tried not to smother her son like so many English mother hens with their chicks, but if Eustace ever brought a girl home for dinner... well, she may just have to bake a cake for the occasion.

Oh these are just ADORABLE. It's so nice to see Harold and Alberta not be horrid. They are so confused, but proud (you just know they are proud of their son) and goodness if it's serious enough to have Alberta break out the sugar, well that is something! Thank you!!

Ekaterin beta-tests Mark and Ivan's Dinner Party Survival program with a Winterfair gathering. She puts all her guests in: the Vorkosigans, the Vorvaynes, the Vorpatrils, the Koudelka clan and their mates, Simon Illyan, and more. Each person requires their age, unmarried name, political affiliation, and past intimacies, where known.

It takes hours, and that's before the menu.

When she hits "Compute," the screen greys, leaving behind an ImpSec eye. Then it opens a call to Alys Vorpatril.

Ekaterin has to apologize for swearing, and for the call.

"Quite all right," Lady Alys says. "Let's see what we can do."

He grins because it's not quite the whole story, but even a girl as lovely as Jane can not keep hold of all her memory of Mary Poppins and her antics, so she wouldn't believe him even if he says the truth; but also, a flame bright than any lamppost burns in his chest whenever she looks at him with that smile. "Well, I wouldn't quite say that, but I do know a thing or two about wrangling in a wayward kite."

When she smiles, her eyes crinkle at the corners and he could kiss every freckle. "Is that right? Well, would you mind showing me some pointers down at the park, say, around three?"

"It'd be an honor and a privilege."

Diplomacy

“Well, Spock, I’m a doctor, not a diplomat – maybe I don’t always know how to phrase things, but you must know how much I respect your work.”

“Nor are you a cruel man, Doctor perhaps you could find it in yourself to respect me as well as the ways I can serve you,” and yeah, the man has a point.

Beyond Death (Naruto)

I will see them again, I will get them back, I will, he thought, heart beating too fast, blood and chakra racing under his skin, brothers. . . I failed to save you but I will do better this time, I'll take care of you, you'll be safe.

Tobirama slammed his hands down on the seal, chakra lashing out of him and roaring through the new Edo Tensei into the Pure Lands.

When Loki shifts, it never feels like his body is what’s changing; rather the air settles around her so it’s easier to move through space. Everyone acts like that’s the trick, but bodies are easy compared with making the body language genuine and unforced.

At the end of the day he shakes off the people he has been, often in reverse order because symmetry is important, but keeps a little bit of each close at hand.
