Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Expanse, Amos (and Naomi and Prax and Holden)

[personal profile] nyctanthes 2018-12-27 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Naomi my friend, my only and dearest friend, you shouldn’t get comfortable; he tells her over and over, through the dragging and clanking of his chain against the fence - the frothing, howling attacks on whoever pisses him off (and ninety-nine out of a hundred people piss him off); she looks at him (beseechingly, trustingly) and replies in her lopsided, lilting Belter patois: “Amos, my Amos, you’d never hurt me, you’d never hurt anyone who who didn’t deserve it (who I didn’t tell you to hurt), confident that her hold on the leash is firm and true.

Prax my love, you shouldn’t get comfortable, he says with actions not words: by not letting down his guard, remaining ever wary and watchful, by leaving for days (for weeks, for months) - because he’s nobody’s house pet; and the muscles under Prax’s jaw tense and release, he nods in understanding, though he only does it because he’s thinking: You don’t really mean it, you won’t be gone forever, you need someone to scratch your back and no one does it better than I do.

Holden my captain, he explains, you think of me as part of your crew, your chosen family, your defense against what lurks in the dark (political short-sightedness, zero sum thinking, fanaticism, greed and stupidity), but you shouldn’t ever get comfortable; he starts to explain why - I’m callous and dangerous and broken; a killer, a no good dirty rotten untrustworthy son of bitch whose done (so many) things and it would make your hair fall out just to hear one of them - when Holden cuts him off: “Don’t worry, Amos,” he growls matter of factly, standing tall: “I wouldn't dream of it."

That we can feel pain and know sadness (Daredevil, MCU)

[personal profile] edenfalling 2018-12-27 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I did mostly all right until Elise from Accounting -- I got to know her because of some issues with my first paychecks, but that's a different story -- until she told me you'd gone to 'a place beyond tears,' and I just lost it and spent the next half hour choking on this horrible mix of ugly crying and completely inappropriate laughter," Karen says, fingers relaxed on the neck of her beer bottle; then she snorts and adds, "That always struck me as a terrifying idea, you know."

Matt makes an inquiring noise, the thrum of his voice in his chest vibrating pleasantly against Karen's skull where she's leaned back against his sternum.

Karen clicks her nails against the bottle, lets its cool solidity ground her the same way as Matt's equally solid warmth, and says, "Because to be beyond tears means to be something that isn't quite human anymore, and even if that's a good thing -- even if it means joy and relief from pain -- I've lost enough pieces of myself to ever give up another willingly."

Pirate!dork! XD Thank you. (Seriously? Cool! It's such a tiny fandom, too. >.> I love the movie but honestly have never seen any of the anime and what I've read about it makes me leery of that version.)

This is great! Wonderful little vignette that really stands on its own and captures them well.

“Before we go, pour me a plain soda water,” Garak said, “but ... very carefully, please.”

Heh, I'm rather amused that he still lets Quark pour that drink himself.

Like all Raptors, Blue viewed the world through a series of lenses: prey vs. not-prey, danger vs. not-danger, interesting playthings vs. things beneath her notice, and family vs. not-family. Blue’s littermates were all dead, and she had no mate and no chicks, which would have left her adrift, for Raptors are social animals — but Blue’s mother was still alive, so all her allegience and pack instinct were focused there.

Blue did not like her mother’s chosen mate (weak thighs, no claws, no teeth to speak of, and she called Blue’s mother “Owen” in a weak little croak like a sick chick), but pack was pack, for weak or for strong.
