caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

Neville had thought it was practicing the Patronus charm for their auror tests that was doing it - the sweaty palms, the pounding heart, the nervous stomach, and above all, the thrill and joy in the air. Harry was just an excellent teacher, the best study help a mate could ask for, and the Patronus Charm he still hadn't quite made corporeal was powerful magic indeed.

But it only took one intense look of delight gleaming out of those bright eyes at their celebration to make Neville down his whole drink and reconsider a number of plans — first among them, seeing if some of these memories with Harry might be what he needed to make that Patronus come out to play, after all.

Iverson drags his trembling hand across his face and breathes in the cold night air, looking up at the goddamn infinite stars twinkling at him like there's nothing wrong, like they aren't on the brink of extinction as a species at the hands of an alien madman.

Sometimes he wonders if this is all there is out there, countless lethal alien species circling this stupid little planet like sharks in the water, smelling every weakness like a drop of blood in the ocean, and it makes him furious because there's nothing but weaknesses here, the whole planet like a wounded whale with its belly up and waiting to get devoured.

And then Iverson thinks, there was that blue lion, the giant robot that didn't attack them, the one that appeared out of nowhere and fled away just as fast, and wasn't it just the most amazing coincidence that five people disappeared along with it, those three hapless children and that boy from the desert and the Garrison's very own golden boy, all without a trace, and fuck it, maybe the stars have a reason to look so happy tonight, maybe they all do, if not today then maybe tomorrow.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawn Summers (cheaty 6-sentence fill)

There's no bread at home, but Dawn wants a sandwich, and a sandwich she will make; to an open mind, what's a donut if not Scooby bread?

She hesitates between using one of Tara's avocados and a dusty can of deviled ham from the back of a cupboard, then decides to go for both. Tara will be glad to know she ate a salad.

Okay... the greenish mixture does taste a little odd... but there's no going back now, not after what she did to Willow's Brazil nuts. Dawn firmly believes that sauce can fix anything; she'll take the unpronounceable British kind that Spike puts in his blood.

See, she could cook for herself all the time if everyone wasn't being funny about it.

Awwwww, this is so sweet! ♥ I loved all the little details like Allura's hair floating in non-existent wind (she knows how to make an entrance for sure), Lance throwing flowers and Keith going to marry Shiro in front of the Blades too (because he so would).

On AO3

She enjoys watching her husband research things that catch his attention for long periods. Like now when they're about to have a child, she knows that he has been researching and consulting the healers on how best to raise a baby to childhood.

Even before they had gotten married and were little more than just friendly partners before becoming friends, she had enjoyed watching and sometimes helped him work his skills.

Aisha smiles softly and rests a gentle hand on the slight bump of her stomach and knows that both of them are good hands with her husband's care and attention.

oh wow, that's so perfect for Horatio and Hamlet, but I'm also going to cry now. Especially since Hamlet is perhaps at his strongest as he falls. And Horatio supports his choice even as he urges "if your mind dislike anything, obey it" and tries to guide him back from the edge.

Sidenote: the worst way to cut Hamlet is to have Laertes' last line be "the king, the king's to blame" instead of exchanging forgiveness, because when it comes down to it, his justice isn't about accusations, but reparations and growing to a peace.

Vex knew it had been her idea immediately, that she proposed to the group so that they could find the target of their mission much more easily; that it was a disguise to mask their purpose for infiltrating the compound as smoothly as they had.

She knew that it would end once their target is found, their mission is then completed, the union dissolved once they were back on the road with the others.

But as she looked into Keyleth's vividly bright eyes and joyous expression, Vex found that she didn't want to dissolve the union bond once everything is over.

She wants to be Keyleth forever.

"Coran, obviously," Allura says, combing her fingers carefully through Lance's hair and thinking, I am my father's daughter in this, too.

She can feel Lance's smile through her thin nightshirt like she feels his warm hand touching the round hill of her belly, cradling their child through her skin and muscles, and there's laughter in his voice when he says, "Obviously."

Then he lifts his head from her shoulder and leans over her, tucking a wayward lock of hair behind her ear, and it's right there in his eyes, the love and the trust, and when he says, "Our little one deserves only the best, just like you did," it's because he does understand.

Fill: Yuri on Ice

Once they'd put finally put away Yuuri's things, Yuri attacked the empty moving boxes with the same relentless efficiency as a general mowing through enemy territory, and before they'd even settled down for tea, he'd wrestled half-a-dozen empty boxes into folded submission. "Can I get these," he -- said? demanded? -- and glared at Viktor's understanding snort, before continuing, defensive, "Potya likes playing with boxes."

"Well, of course Potya is welcome to them," Yuuri said: he shook his head at Viktor while Yuri harrumphed triumphantly and went back to putting his trophies into the entrance room - even if Yuri looked like he was having as much fun toying with moving supplies as he claimed his cat would have, it was probably best for peacekeeping's sake not to say make the comparison aloud; when Yuri returned and perched himself atop the sofa the moment Viktor moved away to refill his cup, Yuuri drowned his own giggle into his tea, and smiled happily at the nascent bickering.
