Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

oh, I love this. his discomfort with the politics of reunions, followed by a moment of joy, and then the crown turning to mulch, what a wonderful fic

Her uncle-husband is ancient, by God's standards; the eldest of the Olympians, though he is no longer one -- he's more Titan than he is Olympian in looks, tall and gaunt with his skin stretched thin across old, old bones.

He is something different from her; ancient and still and infinitely patient, to the point it almost scares her that he waits so long to take her to their marriage bed, and she wonders what, exactly, he is hiding under his chiton.

It's dark when she finally becomes his bride, but the consummation of their marriage is not unpleasant; he takes his time with her, and he does resemble her nymph's promises of what a man should feel like -- and in the dark, she quite likes the way his smile glimmers with old power, the words in a language long-dead that she elicits from his lips.

THIS IS SO GOOD

I love the idea of how the Trojan war must have affected him. Glad he's got Persephone - be a bit awkward if the lord of the dead died of contemplation. ;)

He probably wouldn't die from not breathing (maybe?) but can you IMAGINE if poseidon had to take over for him? or ZEUS?

Aw! They're probably lucky it was only a small lightning bolt. I love the image of this sweet snuggling being so abruptly interrupted, lol.

Those last lines ♥♥♥ Also I love how it recontextualises Roxas's bitchiness as a little bit "Well if you're going to be ANNOYING like that, Axel, maybe I'll make it harder on you too!!"
slippy: The Disciple, wearing a pelt headdress and snarling to the side. (homestuck] but too late)

That feeling of doom, building in lies until that final image of a burning sun, hits so well.

The ambivalence in this works so well. And damn but the imagery for Hades is cool.

It's easy to see how that contrast would linger with him. And I like the "mulch" detail a lot too.

Yes yes yes!! The hands of a queen! INCOHERENCE.

Which is to say that this is perfect and I love that the Narnian Lucy is more wild and free than anything in Aragorn's Middle Earth (I also like to imagine Tolkien and Lewis fighting over this) and how enchanted he is by it. ANOTHER.

Drifting through the vastness of possible creation feels almost like the dream bubbles, worlds bleeding together at their points of similarity. She floats on a world that is nothing but endless ocean until the salt air in her mouth turns to salty-sweet ice cream that she eats on a traincar as she rides through a twilit town of hills and bridges, bridges that take her to dungeons that promise to make her a king if she can pass their trials.

Her travels never take her home, and she tells herself it's because she already won everything it had to offer.

Oh, this is so sweet! I like the reminder that his duty does weigh him down - and even if he doesn't need to breathe to live, surely it's better to act like a living thing, even if you're the god of death.

(Also, I saw you mention your previous LJ name earlier and I remember you now from previous years! Lovely to meet up with you again.)

Oh, this is interesting - a Hades who really feels like a death god, rather than a romantic hero or even an Olympian. I like the different take - and also the idea that Persephone had her nymph's promises to guide her in terms of her marriage bed.

NOBODY LIKES YOU, APOLLO.

Ahem, sorry. Your snippet was so evocative it made me angry! That first line is one of those that makes me jealous I didn't write it first, and the whole thing is wonderful, and very effective.

Your Sweet Voice [Trojan War Cycle, Cassandra]

[personal profile] vialethe 2018-12-19 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
In visions granted in sun-stroke, Cassandra sees her prophecies gone right - her brother kept at home, a war averted, a wooden horse burning high on the beach, screams lost to the crackling flames.

In her dreams, Hektor is king and greyed with age; Paris laughs at his side, gone fat and jolly; Creusa beams at her brood of grandchildren, and Cassandra -

Cassandra is not there, and she wakes with the sun’s glare in her eyes, harsh and pitiless; unforgiving, unrelenting, unbearable.
