caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

Susan does not particularly care for boats; that does not mean she doesn't love the sea. She remembers how the surface of the water would glimmer like stained glass through the windows of Cair Paravel, how the sand felt under toes, that first day back, in those few hours without war; she remembers long afternoons spent staring up the coast of Calormen as the waves crashed at her feet, the sound soothing after the bustle of the markets and the droning diplomacy of the court.

She and Lucy would collect sea glass on the beaches of the Eastern Ocean, each piece a marvel in the smithies of the dwarves.

The ring she wears back through the Wardrobe does not gleam in the English sun, and the once-vibrant red of the glass fades until it looks like nothing more than rock.

He doesn't remember what Arthur said, if he'd said anything at all. He remembers Arthur's mouth, trailing up the inside of his thigh, and then the sudden break of his bones under Arthur's hands, pressing down, holding him, begging him wordlessly to come.

He doesn't remember pain, doesn't remember reaching for the gun on the nightstand, but he remembers Arthur's smile, pressed lightly into his bruising skin.

If Beau has to spend even another minute in the library, she's going to kick over some nerd's table. She can hear every cough, every page turn, especially after her recent meditation; it all gets under her skin, bunching into knots. It's not that she can't get anything out of those books, it's that words on a page can't drown out the words in her head, overlapping voices reminding her she's not a damn thing she's supposed to be.

I have been hearing in my head Parker's reaction to Peter's little speech "this is where it always starts, the little schemes. You can't get something for nothing Neal!"

"That's nonsense. I get something for nothing all the time, pssh, it's called being a thief."

(Also picturing Eliot torn between amusement and "don't say that around the FBI agent" and then I thought omg what if Agents Hagen and whatever showed up in Peter's building some weeks/months after Neal worked with them all and everyone accepts them, even Peter, and they've heard so much about these agents, and Neal is just like 'man you guys are good, what are we doing now?')

The man who sits beside her is silent, his sword resting on his folded knees; he offers that blade only to those willing to pay, but – she is aware of this, distantly, though her mind shies from it – the price she offered is greater than most, and he has promised his sword to her until the dreaming ends.

Could she have her choice, that ending would never come – for the air is clean here, and the moon is bright, and there is nothing to fear from Sin – but when she tells him so, he only shakes his head, smiling beneath the mask, and says, “All dreamers wake, Lady – even you and I.”

A/N: so I saw your prompt on Thursday and I loved it. But I didn't know how to use it. But now I finally do! (It's also the first finished fanfic I've written in forever so I'm gonna post it :p )


There were many things Elliot adored about Luke, like the warmth of his wings on a cold morning, the way he handed Elliot his pudding without being asked, the fact that he could literally fly, (his fingers in Elliot's hair, his eyes always seeking out Elliot in a crowd, his quiet laugh), but high on that list was that Luke, unlike some (most) people, could tolerate Elliot's endless fascination with mermaids. 

However, even Luke head his limits.

"Elliot," Luke said, as he held his boyfriend's face in his hands, "You've been talking about mermaids all day. Maybe we can talk about something else? Like dinner?"

It's been too long since they've seen each other, too long since they've shared the same space, but they fall back into each other like the time apart doesn't mean a thing. The cameras are familiar and they mostly pay them no mind, but Liam creeps into Louis's bedroom only after the crews leave for the night, and Louis is waiting for him with a smirk. He's changed, as much as Liam hates that he wasn't there for it, couldn't watch it happen and grow alongside him, so he kisses the tattoos he doesn't recognize, and tries to relearn a body he once knew as well as his own.
