Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Edit to add on 12/18/2018 Please check out this update here. And this friending meme if you're so inclined here.

Yes, I love them too, but they don't really help themselves much. :(

It's such an odd fairytale, but it's one of my favorites too! You have to hope the husband was a decent man as well as being intelligent and persistent.

It was the first thing that struck me when I read 'high water' and then I couldn't stop giggling thinking of them stuck out in a rowboat somehow. Cor would NOT be pleased.

They were so well matched in every respect - I like to think there's no way Henry could not have appreciated her intelligence and acumen, especially early on in his reign when he had less experience of his own.

I always want them to have moments of happiness, but the angst is so much more dramatic, somehow.

Once again, you understand exactly what I was after! I almost included a (/Dionysus) in there but I didn't want to make it too complicated...I should have had more faith. I love the contrast between Theseus, who is all pretty talk, and Dionysus being a man of action.

The Kids in the Hall, Simon & Hecubus

[personal profile] desertscribe 2018-12-17 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Manservant Hecubus," Sir Simon Milligan yelled out as dramatically as he could without having to sit up any straighter in the armchair in which he sprawled in The Pit of Ultimate Despair.

"Yes, Master?" Hecubus said, appearing instantly at his side.

"Fetch me my Black Bunny Slippers of Darkest Doom for my evil lounging pleasure," Simon commanded.

"Of course, Master," Hecubus said and vanished from view once more, but when he returned, the slippers he carried were white, not black, also dripping wet. "I cleaned them for you first, Master," Hecubus said happily, "with bleach!"

"Evil," Simon shouted, "pure evil!"

Fantastic!! What a wonderful idea, brilliantly executed. Shrewd Corin tamping down the possibility of unrest in a corkscrew maneuver that no one ever need know about... and he gets to box bears in the bargain! New head-canon — I love this!

You know, sometimes I read your fills and I forget we basically created this ship ourselves out of nothing, they fit together so well. I like here how she loves him even when she doesn't understand him, because they are still the same.

I literally giggled out loud at Athena rolling her eyes at his melodrama. And then her reason at the end! So perfectly petty, as the Greek gods should be.

Greek gods are not known for their subtlety

“I will play for you a symphony of the heavens!” boasted Zeus, throwing his cloak over his brawny shoulder, the motion stirring a tempest to life in the world below.

Alarmed, his latest mortal conquest tried to dissuade him in the hopes that some distraction would calm the storm and spare the ordinary people in the shadow of Mount Olympus: “If you please, my lord,” she said shyly, “the howling winds and the thunder give me a headache... I would much rather repose with you under the stars in the soft music of the spheres... or perhaps sing a hymn of my own in your honor?”

His expression passed from petulance through a brief flash of fury (with accompanying lightning), but finally lightened along with the skies below, for there was nothing a god loved so well as praise.

“Are you sure you’ve removed every trace of the Lor-Alai system from the star charts?” Hobbie Klivian demanded; his astromech whistled an affirmative, and Hobbie took one last mournful look at the blue skies swirling below.

A planet full of beautiful women eager to fawn over starfighter pilots was too tempting a prospect to dangle in front of the rest of the squadron — what they really needed, after all, was an unpopulated world for their hidden base — and besides, maybe it was his suspicious nature, but Hobbie didn’t quite trust they way those women had looked at him... a parsec later, and he couldn’t even remember their faces, just the hungry, predatory look in their eyes...

“Delete your internal backup, too,” he told his R5 unit abruptly, “and don’t let anyone talk you into retrieving it, not even me.”

"Why not?" Jester counters, with an infuriating shrug. "If everyone is happy, and talking about my stupid sad feelings will just ruin that, then why should I ever talk about it, y'know?" She gives a wobbly smile. "It is fine, and I will be fine, eventually. I always am."

"No," Beau says, brushing back a lock of Jester's hair with a shaky hand, the callused skin of her knuckles grazing her cheek, "no, Jess, because if you're secretly sad, then I'm not happy. I want to be there if you're hurting, even if I can't fix it."

True, Bully Bottom always did blow hot air, so why should he not become wholly one with that element? He laughs loud and sharp, and then marvels at his own voice – was it always so like a bray, and did so many notes ever crash upon each other’s shores in that melodious discord?
More to the point, this Titania is a queen of thoughts in a realm where intention is action, so will this new life without a form mean a life without a voice? (Perish the thought, or perish him!)

Literary ladies in all directions! :D And thanks for the rec - I especially like the deftness with happy endings are organised for everybody, including, probably, Herr Braun (I mean, what a triumph!) - the Wickhams taking in poor widowed Harriet was especially fun.
