With shiny silver thread
Well, I didn't delete or abandon it, so go me? Hey, it's the little things! Or, errr, the really long ones. As I rounded 22,000 words yesterday, I decided that it was time to face reality and split the final H&M chapter, The Golden Age (With Shiny Silver Thread). The FF chapter is here -- I'll get it up at AO3 later today.
A few folks have posted nice anon reviews so if you are reading, thanks so much. I really really appreciate you doing so.
I have, in a few places, across several works but most especially H&M, thrown myself into the clothes. I'm not a costumer and have no knowledge of such things but it's never stopped me. When I first started BRD, there was this long running thing about Princesses stuffed into ill-fitting corsets and Evil Banker Morgan in her dress of indeterminate green with shiny silver thread only a Crow can see, and then how Morgan literally takes the clothes off her back to gamble with the crows. The green was just because, which then became part of the icons of the Banking Houses and the green tree of Linch. The emphasis upon her gown in BRD was there because the story was a riff on a lot of different romance tropes, including many of the predominate ones in Narnia. One of those tropes is a real focus on what the Female OC romantic interest is wearing, usually written in the 1st person. Profiles are full of pictures of the dress this FOC wore to this event, etc.
For ages, I've wanted to close H&M with another homage to and riff on that trope and that's why we've got this whole thing involving clothes. It's indulgent and undiscplined (22K+ and rising, so yeah).
There are lots of other looks back but this is all self indulgent enough as it is. If you are still reading, thank you, and I hope you enjoy it.
