Three Sentence Ficathon

The 2015 Three Sentence Ficathon is now CLOSED, with over 4,100 prompts, fills, and comments.  It's been a great exchange and thank you so much for the whacky crackfic, the moving short fic, and the amazing cross-overs.  You all are great.  I won't freeze this -- go ahead and continue to fill any prompts that interest you and comment on fills made.  I just ask that there not be any more NEW prompts.

We'll be back next year.  Check out the friending meme and friend away and if you post your works on AO3, be sure to use the 3 sentence ficathon tags.

Thank you again, so much!

It's been 2 years, so why not?!!

Caramelsilver ran one in December on Live Journal but I was too busy to play.  There are lots of outstanding prompts over there, so do go and check it out!!  Here's the link!  I did one in early spring 2 years ago here on Dreamwidth, and with Yuletide, Fandomstocking, and Festivids over, I thought I'd run a new one!!  Thanks so much  to [personal profile] snacky and Saoirse7 for the nudge and to [personal profile] st_aurafina for making the swell banner and icon!

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed and even encouraged!

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent.  Come one, come all!
I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).  Please, post this anywhere and everywhere.  The more people who come and play, the better!

[And I'll try to put an embed code in so you can spread the word.  I've tried multiple times and failed so far
[personal profile] snacky  !

How long will it go?
I'm closing it on Sunday, March 8, 2015.   (Last time, we reached 5,000 comments and I had to start a new one before the ficathon concluded.  If that happens, I'll start a new post).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.  3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes.

Gosh, there are some cool people over here.  How do I introduce myself?
Through the friending meme right here.

And here, have some icons!

Something a little different...

After a week of strong tides, the waves finally subsided and a curious object was found washed up along the shores.

The Inspector eventually pushed his way through the crowd and gazed upon a most peculiar and gruesome sight: a clawed-foot tub—chipped along the rim and two of its feet missing—and sitting inside were three dead men, names currently unknown but occupations clear thanks to their clothing.

"Sir," the Inspector looked up as his Constable drew near, notepad in hand and shaking his head ruefully, "no one saw exactly what happened but given the state of the two bashed heads, we believe it was Candlestick-maker that did it—we found what we believe is the murder weapon in the bottom of the tub—and then killed himself."

I was thinking more along the lines of late Victorian England but yes, a bit of Miss Fisher probably did creep in since the legal system is a little similar. :-)

:D Oh dear, oh dear! Should I be enjoying this so much, when there's such terrible mayhem in the tub? ("chipped along the rim,and two of its feet missing" - love the precise crime-scene description!) This is wonderful - and totally unexpected!

[I realize you don't know Homestuck, but I couldn't resist.]

-----

"Investerrogator Peacock, tired of these foolish shenanigans and blatant obstructions of justice, suggests Mister Scarlet in the library with the candlestick, and proceeds to mercilessly drub the suspect until he confesses everything he knows!"

"What the fuckin' -- ow! -- hey, not the cape, you know I don't -- ow! -- what are you even -- ow! -- Jesus Christ on a spring-loaded novelty crutch, T-Z, will you lay off with the damn cane and stop trying to steal my cards, that's not how the game works!"

"It is now," Terezi said, and hurled herself gleefully across the Clue board, scattering the pieces in her wake.

Hahahaha, I don't know the fandom at all, but this is wonderful! Obstructions of justice and drubbing the suspect in Clue - it makes me want to play Clue again, but only if I have ammunition at hand! And the interjections, especially "Jesus Christ on a spring-loaded novelty crutch" - dying of laughter. I know someone who uses that phrase all the time... albeit without the spring-loaded novelty part, which absolutely makes it!

Thanks! Homestuck is a webcomic (...well, mostly it's a comic, though it also contains videos and mini-games and lots and lots of text) about some internet friends who play a computer game that turns out to affect the real world; the story rapidly spirals into epic, multiverse-spanning adventure while remaining hilariously off the wall. It's really long though -- like, over seven thousand pages and several hours of video and gameplay long -- and both notoriously brain-breaking and addictive, so read at your own risk. *wry*

The havoc people are creating with that candlestick! :D Great! (I like "investerrogator" very much - the way compound slyly inserts snapping suggestions of alligator. :) )

Hey, candlesticks are very dangerous in the wrong hands! :-)

(I can't claim credit for "investerrogator" -- though I admit I don't remember anymore if the word is actually used in Homestuck canon or if it's simply an early bit of fanon that caught on widely. Either way, the suggestion of teeth in that particular melding of "investigator" and "interrogator" is probably intentional.)

Thanks! Clue has always been one of my favorite board games, so my mind jumped there immediately upon seeing weaponized candlesticks. :-)

[Miraculous Ladybug] Miss Scarlet, in the Library

[personal profile] alexseanchai 2019-06-03 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Blunt instrument?" suggests Chat Noir, grinning at his partner, and ducks when Ladybug gestures as though she fully agrees with this plan and intends to wallop him with the heavy polka-dot candlestick, instead of the akuma.

"Too bad it's not like Lumière in Disney," Ladybug says, frowning around the room; "not that I want fire in with all these books, but his controlled flamethrower stuff was—"

What her eyes light on, Chat isn't sure, but she'll tell him what she needs from him, and meanwhile she's most beautiful when she's lighting up like this.
