Three Sentence Ficathon

The 2015 Three Sentence Ficathon is now CLOSED, with over 4,100 prompts, fills, and comments.  It's been a great exchange and thank you so much for the whacky crackfic, the moving short fic, and the amazing cross-overs.  You all are great.  I won't freeze this -- go ahead and continue to fill any prompts that interest you and comment on fills made.  I just ask that there not be any more NEW prompts.

We'll be back next year.  Check out the friending meme and friend away and if you post your works on AO3, be sure to use the 3 sentence ficathon tags.

Thank you again, so much!

It's been 2 years, so why not?!!

Caramelsilver ran one in December on Live Journal but I was too busy to play.  There are lots of outstanding prompts over there, so do go and check it out!!  Here's the link!  I did one in early spring 2 years ago here on Dreamwidth, and with Yuletide, Fandomstocking, and Festivids over, I thought I'd run a new one!!  Thanks so much  to [personal profile] snacky and Saoirse7 for the nudge and to [personal profile] st_aurafina for making the swell banner and icon!

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed and even encouraged!

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent.  Come one, come all!
I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).  Please, post this anywhere and everywhere.  The more people who come and play, the better!

[And I'll try to put an embed code in so you can spread the word.  I've tried multiple times and failed so far
[personal profile] snacky  !

How long will it go?
I'm closing it on Sunday, March 8, 2015.   (Last time, we reached 5,000 comments and I had to start a new one before the ficathon concluded.  If that happens, I'll start a new post).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.  3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes.

Gosh, there are some cool people over here.  How do I introduce myself?
Through the friending meme right here.

And here, have some icons!

Further Down and Further In

These are the secrets the dwarfs keep to themselves: the earth is alive. Not just the forests and waters and fertile loam of the surface, which anyone can see, but the deep stone itself breathes and grows; the earth has a heartbeat and veins of molten fire that run like blood. In the first days of the world, while Aslan's song still echoed in the rock, a handful of dwarfs dug too deep, following a chain of rubies that glowed ever brighter the deeper they delved, until their mine cracked and gaped like an open wound and they peered into the fiery depths to see strangers peering upward in return. Those who leapt downward never returned.

These days their many-times-great nieces and nephews harvest the fruits of that deep, living realm the way other Narnians harvest meat and grain, and if now and again a dwarf hears the rushing song of living gold, or sees the shine of jewels that swell and drip with juice, nobody follows when they venture ever-downward into the heart of stone.

Ohh this is gorgeous! It all feels exactly reminiscent of the quick glimpse we get of Bism in the books -- it walks that line between being mysterious & exciting, and dangerous & horrifying. Thank you!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Bism is definitely an exciting (and probably beautiful) place, but I can't help thinking it may well be deadly to surface-dwellers. We're not built for that kind of heat and pressure, even mitigated by magic.

This is wonderful, an insight into canonical race using canonical background!

Oh, lovely! I love the living earth, and glorious hot beauty of dangerous, unknown Bism.

Thank you! Narnia doesn't make much sense from the perspective of "how do you physically construct a world like this?" but there are some compensations for that frustration. Such as Bism. :-)

Lovely descriptions of Bism and I love how the Dwarfs who venture down never return. Few return to the sunlit lands, indeed!

Thank you! (I like to think that this is the dwarfs' own version of traveling beyond the edge of the world, since they're obviously not much for sailing.)

This captures the seduction of Bism beautifully. If anybody knew about Bism, of course it would be the dwarfs. I love the sense here of the earth as a living thing, with mines like wounds in its flesh...

I think most mines are too shallow for the earth to take much notice -- they might even feel good, like scratching an itch. But if you go too deep and cut through that outer, dead layer of skin...

(Of course, 'dead' is relative. Soil may not be connected to the deep life of Bism, but it's certainly alive in its own way!)

And yes, if anyone in Narnia knows about Bism, it must be dwarfs. Possibly human miners in other lands have similar tales about those who venture too deep, and the strange lights and sounds that sometimes echo through the stone. But they keep such things to themselves, because, to quote, "Few return to the sunlit lands." It's safer not to put that temptation in others' paths.

I've always liked the expression "the living rock," because it's such a contradiction in terms, and yet...
