Three Sentence Ficathon

The 2015 Three Sentence Ficathon is now CLOSED, with over 4,100 prompts, fills, and comments.  It's been a great exchange and thank you so much for the whacky crackfic, the moving short fic, and the amazing cross-overs.  You all are great.  I won't freeze this -- go ahead and continue to fill any prompts that interest you and comment on fills made.  I just ask that there not be any more NEW prompts.

We'll be back next year.  Check out the friending meme and friend away and if you post your works on AO3, be sure to use the 3 sentence ficathon tags.

Thank you again, so much!

It's been 2 years, so why not?!!

Caramelsilver ran one in December on Live Journal but I was too busy to play.  There are lots of outstanding prompts over there, so do go and check it out!!  Here's the link!  I did one in early spring 2 years ago here on Dreamwidth, and with Yuletide, Fandomstocking, and Festivids over, I thought I'd run a new one!!  Thanks so much  to [personal profile] snacky and Saoirse7 for the nudge and to [personal profile] st_aurafina for making the swell banner and icon!

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed and even encouraged!

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent.  Come one, come all!
I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).  Please, post this anywhere and everywhere.  The more people who come and play, the better!

[And I'll try to put an embed code in so you can spread the word.  I've tried multiple times and failed so far
[personal profile] snacky  !

How long will it go?
I'm closing it on Sunday, March 8, 2015.   (Last time, we reached 5,000 comments and I had to start a new one before the ficathon concluded.  If that happens, I'll start a new post).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.  3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes.

Gosh, there are some cool people over here.  How do I introduce myself?
Through the friending meme right here.

And here, have some icons!

Narnia, Peter, they set their expectations impossibly high

Get your minds out of the gutter

Why Princesses persisted in asking his sisters how to woo him or about his prowess on the, er, field of battle, so to speak, Peter had no idea. Unfortunately, neither did he know what exaggerated tales Susan and Lucy had been telling their Impressionable Visiting Highnesses, though clearly a lot of deliberation and wine had gone into the telling.

"Oh, King Peter," the latest victim swooned, "will you recite the poem you wrote in my honor? I hear it is magnificent."

Yes, so very *magnificent*. I imagine that particular Princess did not last long. So funny, thanks! :)

Haha! I wonder how he gets out of this one. Maybe by declaiming something from Spar Oom?

Treads on the ground

I love that idea!! An education in the classics pays off!
---

She huffed with indignation early, at "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun," and as usual, "why then her breasts are dun" earned him a sharp slap and a respite, until the next Princess at any rate.

"If you ever find one who lets you finish, you should keep her," drawled Dalia, wrapping her tail around Peter's legs.

Peter stroked her golden head and finished the recitation to himself in silence:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

Oh, perfect choice! I was thinking Shakespeare too, but hadn't got beyond that.

For once, a Shakespearean sonnet does not aid in the romance department.

Amorous birds of prey?

[personal profile] transposable_element 2015-02-21 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sorry, I couldn't keep it to three sentences....]

The next morning after the princess had departed (in something less than a huff, largely due to Susan’s intervention, which she admitted she rather owed her brother) Peter called Edmund into the library and asked him how much Shakespeare he could remember.

“I don't know, it's been such a long time. Let's see..."Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"...bits of Hamlet...bits of Henry V. Why?”

After a brief digression into the potential utility of the St. Crispin's Day speech, Peter explained why he wanted to know. Once Edmund had finished laughing he asked, “Does it have to be Shakespeare?”

“Of course not. What else do you have?”

“I think I can remember most of To His Coy Mistress. That one could get you into real trouble, though, especially if she likes it…”

"I'll keep it in reserve."

:D Could be highly applicable in Narnia! I'm pretty sure I've read a rthstewart story where birds of prey are amorous, and tumble and wrangle in mid-air. (The story with Lucy talking with Mrs Beaver about love?)

I reread the poem last night trying to find a suitable title and the line about amorous birds of prey jumped out at me. I haven't read the story you mention, but it does sound very rthstewart.

I love it!! Everything from Susan's admission to the digression about the speech - and especially keeping "To His Coy Mistress" in reserve - hilarious and so very brotherly. (And there is probably a tale to tell regarding the circumstances in which Edmund learned those verses in the first place...!)

Thanks!

An interesting question how Edmund knows the poem. He wasn't old enough when they came to Narnia to have studied that poem in school, or at least I assume so. Maybe he's precocious?

I like this! Rather a moving glimpse of Peter and Dalia - his keeping silence, I mean - things not said, steps not taken.

a more serious take, x2

[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake 2015-02-20 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter swallowed hard and tried not to look too closely at the painfully hopeful faces gazing upon his crown. They expected too much - he was just a boy, really, one who was awfully good at maths but who, frankly, was bloody awful at declensions and keeping the many Richards and Henrys straight in his mind.

But now he was a king, the first and only High King of Narnia, whom no schoolchild (did they even have school here?) would ever mistake for another.

---

Peter had a bizarre sense of deja vu walking across the quadrangle at Oxford. Stone bishops with upturned noses gaze upon him and seemed to find him lacking, and Peter smiled inwardly. He had risen to impossible challenges before and wiped similar smirks from far more intimidating countenances - including true living stone giants.

He may have to upend a few expectations along the way, but King Peter had built a road and rebuilt a nation, and anyone who said he was fit only to muddle his way through the classics could go hang.

I love these, too! I especially love how you contrasted the fear and nervousness of him starting to be king with the confidence of his "battles" later. Thank you! :)

Both of these fills are amazing, for completely different reasons! I love them! :)
