So, I've been traveling and completely forgot to signal boost the Narnia Fic Exchange.  Sign ups close on Sunday and there are also sign ups for betas and pinch hitters.  It's awesome.  [personal profile] snacky  and [personal profile] aurilly are running it and you should really go play.
Sign ups are here and here on AO3.
Beta offers are here
Pinch hit offers are here

And I guess remix reveals are this weekend.  I mentioned I had 2 stories.  Been a bit of a bust, I guess, but if you can guess which ones I did, I'll write something!

Also, I visited the Joggins Fossil Cliffs and admit to rediscovering some inspiration from the great scientists who also found inspiration there.  So, I may try to pull something about that.  I'm not at all accustomed to walking a rocky shoreline and picking up fossils on the beach.  It was really amazing. (Just trying to figure out who would have gone there in TSG-verse?  Richard Russell?  With Polly?  With Mary?  Eustace? so many possibilities? in verse or AU verse?)  pay this no mind, move along, nothing to see here.  yet.

You anons are amazing and wonderful and I thank you. I so wanted to get to do some remixes for you all but I'm in the midst of traveling and it wasn't to be. But wow, I've received, besides the wonderful llama story, a heartbreaking remix of Jalur's farewell and a gorgeous variation on my story of Lucy and the Star's daughter.  They are below.  Wow.  I'm so happy.  Thank you.

I do, btw,  have 2 stories up in the remix.  I'm a little bit... concerned about one of them.  Ah well.  No matter.  I have three glorious remixes and I'm delighted.

Castingmysilver on Tumblr drew something amazing for me.  They drew Evil Banker Morgan and it's amazing.  You can see her green dress, the crow on her shoulder, her skin tone, her braid, and the oranges.  It's wonderful and amazing and I'm thrilled.

Here is the link.  If you are on Tumblr, I hope you will tell Castingmysilver how awesome they are.

Gosh it's been awhile.

I had 2 remix assignments and got both in on time, woot. Gosh, WHO WRITES 10,000 WORD REMIXES? ME OF COURSE. I'm an idiot. But you knew that. I'd love to get a madness in, I have an idea, but it may not happen -- we're off to Nova Scotia soon. cannot WAIT. I was so sad when the deadline closed because it once again appeared that the person assigned to me had defaulted -- omg I've got rthstewart, run like the wind.
But, a couple days later, a story did pop up so I'm VERY happy that someone did not run like the wind.

Work has been slow and boring and so taking forever to do and in my distraction, I managed to scrape up my car on a parking pylon garage pillar that leaped out at me. Grrr. Also, we may have to replace the car altogether so I got distracted looking at new cars and then got pissed off at car salesman. What about "only contact me by email" was unclear? Also, my spawn ran off to wilderness camp for a week without water bottles and I've been fretting about it.

I've seen Mad Max twice, LOVED IT. OMG GO SEE IT. I did not see Jurassic World though, of course, I love dinosaurs, because ehh. And I need to see the new Pixar movie, though I'm sure I'll cry through the whole thing. I saw the Rebels premiere and did enjoy it. I've not watched Orphan Black yet. I'm just tired of grimdark -- the world is such an awful horrible place from where I sit I look for true escapism from my Twitter feed and daily news. Why yes, hello depression, I've not missed you AT ALL. There was a fun article about the awesomeness of crows in WaPo here.

The post just went up announcing Remix 12: The Dirty Dozen. it's a great, great exchange and you can read about it here. I'm so glad it's happening again! With Remix, you get assigned a person and you get to redo in some fashion one of their stories.  Drabbles and 3SFs are a terrific base for remixing/expanding someone else's vision.  I've loved the stories I've received in the past.

Also, the Exchange at Fic Corner [community profile] fic_corner will be going live too. The Exchange at Fic Corner is a gift exchange for fic based on children's and YA books and short stories from picture books to edgy teen novels

After receiving two really sweet comments, one for AW and one for Rat and Sword, I decided to thank the readers with an AW blurb that I posted in comments on AO3. I'd wanted to get a new chapter up this month but that's not going to happen, I think, given how busy work and other things are keeping me. But I did start writing, and I'm counting that as a win, even though this is far in advance and won't actually appear for awhile.  It also shows a big point/reveal that's been part of the story for a really long time. By the time I get there, this will undoubtedly change, but the afternmath of John Pevensie accompanying Edmund and Peter for a round of drinks at a pub after Peter's made a tough, rotten decision, has been part of the story from the very beginning.

I interrupt this Star Wars squee to enthusiastically plug a follow on to Harold and Morgan written by the lovely, talented and amazing [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake   It's here, The Last Test and Proof and deals with a disaster of epic proportions befalling Cair Paravel after the departure of the Four.  Go!  It's lovely.  And I'm so honored that Syrena decided to tell the story and borrow some of the characters from H&M and elsewhere.

And Oh My Gosh, I forgot to include a picture of Cook that Syrena did!

I'm thrilled with the new trailer.  I am sick with envy that I am not at Celebration with Club Jade but I've done some fun Star Wars things like watch the new Force Awakens trailer 6 times and didn't have pay for a movie ticket!  I'm THRILLED that the Spawn and I shall be able to take the nieces and nephews to see the movie at Christmas and we CANNOT WAIT.  Also, there's a Force Awakens exhibit at Celebration that was described on io9 that included pictures and commentary on concept art for a character that is either a huge misdirection or a big, giant spoiler.

Behold the glory of the trailer....

I LOVE the opening shot.  And I love this

And this,

Also, anyone notice Luke's peculiar grammar -- "my father has it...."  Present tense?

And of course, Chewie, we're home.

The concluding chapter to Dressing Down or Alpaca Bag is up! You can find it here and here

Thanks so much if you R&R'd. I really appreciate it. Something that Ruanchunxian01 and Clio noted in the story was how different each Monarch's relationship is with his or her Guard. Jalur manages Edmund, Dalia and Fooh after become Peter's emotional booster and sounding board. Lucy and Briony are friends and operate as a team, with a lot of good cop/bad cop and Briony very much enables Lucy's actions and acts as Lucy's advocate. Lambert is very much Susan's partner, trusted advisor, and friend. It's a very intimate relationship -- all of them are, but as Hoberry observes in a Christmas story I wrote a long time ago, that Lambert's service predates the Guard's oath to the monarch, and his service became the model for what the guard came to be. I fiddled with those parts quite a bit to try to convey that.

Yes, Guard Llamas are for real and I personally think they are terrifying,

So, with lots of planning and second guessing and spending WAY too much money and time, nevertheless, the dinner party was a success.  Not enough roasted vegetables, too much rice, chicken and white bean dip, ovens acting up, and the chocolate fondue, garbanzo bean cookie brownie, and avocado/yogurt sauce all were very popular.  Not gluten for the evening, no eggs, no nuts, and optional cheese and chicken.  Everyone drank wine instead of all the beer and so I was very glad that they brought wine as hostess gifts.  Also, 2 extra people so we kinda ran out of seating.  Woops.

Done.  I am done in.  Also, next time, I'll skip Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Mom's Organic and go straight to Shopper Food Warehouse.  Our local SFW has an enormous ethnic foods department, huge selection of Kosher, Indian, Latin, and Asian product, the largest selection of Goya I've ever seen, and their prices are half of the other places.  Lots of vegetarian options, lots of gluten free options, and so much cheaper, and calmer than these lunatic high end places.  I don't even have to go into a parking garage and negotiate around giant SUVs with rhino guards.

Thanks to everyone for the excellent suggestions.

I posted the first chapter of two of a thing very much inspired by the 3 sentence ficathon, with prompts and inspiration from Adaese, ruanchunxian0, [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake .  It's a short (no, really it is short) spin on the llamas on the lam, the stolen dress and the other dress.  With added Crows.

Dressing Down or Alpaca Bag can be found on AO3 and FF.net.  I'll post chapter 2 next week.  Thanks and I hope you enjoy it.  It's got a lot in common with By Royal Decree.  So strange to coming back to that story after so long.

So my SO, dear, darling long suffering person, LST, has FOR YEARS, wanted to invite his co-workers over for St. Patrick's Day or Cinco de Mayo, or something.  Always.  I sort of nod, and say, OK, fine, whatever, sure.

So, it's finally happening, on Sunday, and he got really short with me when he asked about food ideas and I responded that there really weren't any typically Irish foods we could serve for a crowd unless we looked at a pork or lamb dish, or salmon, and/or potatoes.  And this is more a 4-7 PM buffet kind of grazing thing, not a sit down meal.  He said he didn't think lamb (I agree), he likes salmon but not for a party food for 20, and there are Indian and Jewish guests coming, so pork is out.

Fine.  Party poultry it is, with a vegetarian option.  I said I'd make turkey chili and vegetable chili -- not Irish but good, easy and he likes it and I'll do something with potatoes -- I'm thinking hash brown cups.
I made a bunch of batches of cookie dough, froze them and can bake cookies, crackers and cheese, get a fruit and veggie tray, make some mac and cheese for the kids (yes, we have kids too) and we're done, right?

I send him out to get decorations and he buys Irish beer, so he's happy, and when he asked about things for the kids, I said, well, we can have them decorate cookies or cupcakes with green sprinkles and frosting.

Now, I do have a very high food awareness, allergens, sensitivities and such.  I can accommodate just about anything. My BIL is allergic to melon and fish.  My SIL is allergic to shellfish.  I've entertained lots of people with nut, shellfish, gluten allergies, and lactose sensitivities.   I don't have them but gosh I know lots of people who do and it's bad form to injure your guests.  I know how to cook in a clean, segregated kitchen.  I'm glad to do it.  So I always ask, any allergies?  Anything out?

I should have known from his workplace.
Not only no pork but
1 Vegan
1 gluten-free
2 no nuts, eggs (including any cooked eggs, like in baked goods)

Wuhhh.  THAT becomes a very small set of foods that can be eaten by everyone.  Beans, vegetables, fruit, preferably raw.   Because seriously if you eliminate all animal products (fine, that's doable), you typically start substituting nut butters, flours, and milk substitutes.  But, nuts are out.  Gluten free is no problem (OK, no pasta or bread, but this is what those rice crackers are for) but a lot of gluten free flours specifically state for baking, don't substitute the eggs.  Macaroons are good alternative but those have nuts and egg whites.  Also, not putting the corn I already bought in the vegetarian chili and the vegetable and chicken stock I bought say they are gluten free -- but I may have to make my own stock between now and Sunday to be sure.

I've not told my husband that the gluten-free person won't be drinking any of the beer he bought.

WHOLE FOODS HERE I COME.    And chocolate dipped fruit except I don't have that fondue sterno thing.  Also, I found this, speaking of beans, deep dish cookie.

Gah.  I knew this would happen.

The 2015 Three Sentence Ficathon is now CLOSED, with over 4,100 prompts, fills, and comments.  It's been a great exchange and thank you so much for the whacky crackfic, the moving short fic, and the amazing cross-overs.  You all are great.  I won't freeze this -- go ahead and continue to fill any prompts that interest you and comment on fills made.  I just ask that there not be any more NEW prompts.

We'll be back next year.  Check out the friending meme and friend away and if you post your works on AO3, be sure to use the 3 sentence ficathon tags.

Thank you again, so much!

edit:  I will leave the thread open, so that people can continue to fill prompts and comment upon existing fills.  Ideally, there won't be any new prompts.  (Until next year!!)
