it's away!

Narnia Exchange prompts are up!  Are you happy?  Are you excited?  I AM!  This one is a bit out of the box for me, but that's OK.  What I was not willing to write this year was very, very short.  I may be delving into cross-over territory, which is always fun and I've got some research ahead of me.  So come and share your angst and concerns and happiness.  Be careful though because your prompt IS a secret!!  [livejournal.com profile] snacky has done a great job with the matching!!  Also, there is always a need for betas and pinch hitters so check out the comm if you are willing to volunteer!

I've not seen the Korra finale yet so no spoilers!  I've not dared to go on Tumblr.

So the Big Thing went off pretty well yesterday.  It's always terrifying to seek to instruct experts on their expert topic.  When I got questions I could not answer, the audience would start texting their colleagues and then reporting the answer to the meeting.  Also, snacks were a success until The Man showed up and said snacks were not allowed.  So they (the candy bars, apples and bananas) were moved to the back table.  I kept one apple because it was in fact a prompt and visual aid.  I ate it later.  We'll see what the audience feedback was like but I talked for a solid 2 hours and they mostly stayed engaged the whole time, so good, I guess?

And...  today marks the anniversary of the passage of Title IX!

And yes, still writing.  don't ask.  Disgusted with self.

Glad the Big Thing went well! Boo about the forbidden snacks. :-( I love the mental image of the audience texting around to answer questions!

NFE Prompt. Befuddlement is me.

Glad the Big Thing went well! Pffft to the snack banning, but glad it went well apart from that :DD

And got my prompt! Course, I have no idea how to actually answer it, but there we go xD I can use my trusty tactic of "glaring at the page till it writes itself xD"

I'm still mulling over my NFE prompt. I can't give it my full attention until after I finish and post the current story, but it's in the back of my head. I need to think hard about it because the story that's trying to come forward is maybe too close to something else I've written. I don't want to repeat myself.

Yeah right now it's 1) copy prompt to Word document, 2) keep Word document open and 3) glaring at it until the lightbulb (hopefully) pops and feeling miserable when it hasn't yet.

But some of the misery may just be I've been running a fever for the last two days and the general "Oh my god, why now..." that comes with being sick in the busiest work week of the entire year.

Yay for Big Thing going well! Keeping an audience engaged for two hours is difficult and something I would call a huge success.

Though I'm not writing NFE, I'm hoping someone will need a beta and I can participate that way. Good luck wih writing!

Same here, I can't wait until the episode is on Nick.com. I can't take the waiting much longer!

Oh, so glad to hear that the Big Thing was good, even if snacks were banned (boo).

I'm super excited about my NFE prompt. Snacky really did do an excellent job of matching (and I've heard several others say the same, too!) If only I could get my Camp Nanowrimo writing wrapped up so I could start on my NFE, since I've already got a fantastic idea for it - if I can pull it off. We'll see. Good luck on yours, as well!

I'm curious as to why the snacks were banned. I mean, I could see if he had said ahead of time "No snacks for budgetary reasons!" because we get that all the time at my office, but if you went out of your way to get the snacks and bring them in and they were already there, isn't it just a waste for them to sit at the back of the room?

Bah.

Smart people were smart. At my age, I really prefer to just not do these things, but I was roped into it. Giving speeches and teaching classes are very arduous unless you do them all the time, which I do not.

And your ideas for the prompt so great. If Lara has any question, I'll be glad to help!

I am really excited that you are participating! Hopefully the prompt is broad enough that you'll find something that you want to explore!!

I'm sorry you are sick and busy! those thins really sap the fun out of it. It's hard to be creative with those kinds of pressures!!! Do you like your prompt?

Did you sign up as Beta?

And I just watched Korra. I've not seen any of this before this season, so I'm a little lost. I love the Asami character SO MUCH.

Good luck with the nanowrimo! I can't wait to see what you do! the NFE is such fun!

We were guests at a federal agency teaching and there are really strict rules about accepting gifts. That wasn't the reason though (it was mini candy bars, tootsie pops, apples and bananas). They had some computers in the room. but we weren't offering drinks, just food, so grumpy Man was grumpy. I was eating an apple when he quizzed me on who said we could have food and drink. I declined to incriminate the person who hired us.

Yah. Speeches = do not want.

Thank you! Laura is quite excited about the prompt(s) she got. :-)

[identity profile] lotl101.livejournal.com 2012-06-24 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yep I did :)

And having seen everything but this episode, I agree with you about Asami. She's awesome. I love her (all the Narnia ladies would love her: she can kick butt, but still knows all the propernesses of society. And Lucy would admire my making up words I think). Mako's annoying me so badly, even though he's one of my favourite characters. I don't like him as a person, but he's really interesting.

[identity profile] min023.livejournal.com 2012-06-24 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, for pity's sake. That's the sort of nonsense that makes me want to stick my thumbs in my ears, waggle fingers, cross my eyes and blow a really big raspberry (yes, I am indeed a three year old, or internally anyway). Glad your thing went well apart from this.

I've really not bought into the love triangle. I like him with Asami and I liked Asaim and Korra as friends working together. I wish they'd left the love triangle out of it. I didn't feel like it added anything.

[identity profile] lotl101.livejournal.com 2012-06-24 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Agreement. I think Makorra could have worked really well if the Asami angle wasn't a thing. Masami was alright, but the triangle was a bit stupid. As you said, it didn't add anything, and just subtracted from previously awesome characters.

I really do like my prompt I just hope I come up with something decent for it. It's broad ennough to write anything I would normally want to write. Idea will get there somehow just probably not right now.

Feeling a bit better after piling myself up with antibiotics (generally not to be overused but I needed to get well soon as have to travel for work...and enough about life..)

If I went on a course, discovered the presenter had gone to the trouble of providing snacks, and then (I take it this was in front of everyone?) been told no, I think that would put me pretty firmly on the presenter's side. Glad it all went well apart from that.

I bet these short courses are better handled in Narnia! Though between the physician's models, and the likelihood of someone's snacks meandering off, they might raise eyebrows.

Excellent! It's funny what can inspire a person. For me, it's always nature shows and trips to the zoo and reading book reviews. I'm so glad you found something!

Funny but a physician's model would not have been completely wrong headed given the circumstances. I had lots of visual aids, though no physical models.

I'm so glad your Big Thing went well! (Aside from the ridiculousness surrounding the snacks). It sounds like there was a lot of pressure, and that it all went smoothly speaks volumes about your preparedness (and your general awesomeness, which nobody can possibly doubt who talks to you here). :)

I would be much, much happier about the NFE if I could actually participate. Last summer I didn't get through all the stories when they were posted (I still have the master list in my inbox, just in case I get to it), and this summer is proving to be just as bad, if not worse. We did find a place to live this past week, and learned a lot about the area, which was great, but I had yet another THING dropped into my lap that is due Wednesday, not to mention my book manuscript which is basically due in a week. I am going to a wedding this afternoon - very shortly, in fact - because it's two members of our chorus and we're performing. There's more, but I'm hoping to write an RL F-locked post tonight just to catch everyone up on all the madness.

All of that said, I am so, so excited to read the stories once they are up, and hopefully I will be able to at least get through them all this time. I need to make a point of reading them as they are posted.
