Meme time!

I am going to see Avengers again!  [livejournal.com profile] knitress and [livejournal.com profile] econopodder are Avengers virgins so I'm excited and we WILL stay to the Very Last Scene.  You know the one, which I've so wanted to write but I figure there's more Shwarma fic at this point than Steve/Tony first time fic.  Also I've been to Budapest!

There's been some interesting meta going about readers, writers, reviewers, entitlement, and concrit in [info]lady_songsmith 's journal on Fandom Economy.

Anyway, then [livejournal.com profile] edenfalling presented this meme so tag, you're it!

1. Pick a pairing or a character
2. Ask me my particular headcanon regarding something about them
3. Post to your journal to share your own headcanon!

(And if you want to include OCs from fic and such, bring it on!)

What's your headcanon on how Peter and Susan reacted to Edmund's birth? And do you think Edmund was a fussy, whiny child from the start, or did he only begin to become a little jerk once Lucy came along and took the baby status away from him?

Oh we've actually talked about this one before insofar as Edmund's relationship with his father is concerned -- in one of my stories, Edmund is off to America where John is and John has, to date, been an absolute ass in the story.

As for Peter and Susan, Edmund's arrival is a huge disappointment. The two of them were terrific babies -- they slept regularly, ate regularly, were beautiful, happy, shining babies and toddlers and met every milestone. Every night, they were presented to their father for a peaceful hour of play. Peter was the ELDEST BOY and Susan was THE BEAUTIFUL GIRL and it was all exactly as a father would wish it. Peter and Susan are SO EXCITED to have a baby to take care of. Susan would like a little sister so she can braid her hair and Peter really wants a brother so they can play with toy soldiers but Susan is still happy when Edmund is born. They are going to HELP Mum, they are going to take care of the baby and it's all going to be lovely.

Except Edmund is a fussy, difficult, colicky baby. He spits up a lot, he is a night owl, every piece of clothing itches and he just won't sleep unless Mum holds him. (Today we would say he has mild lactose intolerance and sensory intolerance). He won't let Peter hold him and or let Susan change his nappy. They are crushed. Father looses his wife and his ideal home is in chaos. Mum doesn't get more than 2 hours of sleep in a row for months.

And then Lucy comes along and she is sunny, happy, Peter and Susan get to be the big brother and sister they wanted to be while Mum still has to deal with the very slowly improving Edmund. This family dynamic will simmer for years, until Narnia.

Wow. Even *I* know that this is . . . exactly . . . accurate.

Heh. I bet you feel like you walked into the middle of drunken cocktail party goers engaged in a vigorous conversation about... something.

And now my secret plan to lure you out for coffee last night becomes plain. We could have hashed all these out and harpooned that plot bunny about Artoo knowing all, seeing all, and saying nothing. Because I cannot believe that Leia would not want to know about her mother. Luke, well, that I could see because "the Force tells him so." But there's no way Leia is going to not want to learn more. Even the possibility that she was the product of rape would not faze her -- in fact, she probably expects that, given Vader, and so she wants to know about and maybe help the victim. She has vague memories of her mother (oh George, you screwed that up too) and Luke does not. Ahem. I need to get back to my other sandbox and there's no way I'd feel comfortable writing SW EU given how much this has all been tromped over, but... ok never say never. Seriously, I once started a fic that begins with Luke and Leia training and somehow they get the idea to ask Artoo the direct question. There are so many ways this knowledge could have come to Leia. Padme is pregnant. Everyone knows she is pregnant. Surely there are rumors of who the father might be. Assuming Jar Jar is still alive, he was there when Padme and Anakin met for the first time. Mon Mothma knows Padme and Leia really well. In fact the attempt on Padme from the beginning of AOTC would be known and probably that the Jedi provide her with protection. Her capture on Geonosis with Anakin and Obi Wan would be known. I think it strains credulity to invent ways in which someone wouldn't put two and two together.

Stop me. I am not going back to the EU. There's no way I'd ever get it right and people would ream me for screwing up EU canon.

Help.

I was so torn about coffee last night -- definitely wanted to, but also knew I needed to go home and collapse (esp. since I had to be at church by 7:15 this morning to coordinate on my Pentecostal reading in Welsh).

I think there's plenty of remaining tromping space (all senses meant). Nobody who matters would ream you, at all. And I do, do, do, want to read the fic I proposed about Ep4 from Artoo's viewpoint.

Oh. And as a playtoy for you and your friends here :-), may I offer this description from one of my FB friends of both Aragorn and Thor: 'Fierce, sweet, and scruffy.'

Enjoy playing with THAT one, ladies.

Oh, this is fantastic! Is the one of your stories that features John AW? I keep meaning to get caught up on that, I swear.

Poor wee Edmund! It wasn't his fault he was so difficult. And of course Lucy would be the happiest, most perfect baby ever. I love that Peter and Susan wanted to HELP their mum, because that's so right for them.

In Apostolic Way, John Pevensie's shadow looms large. We learn that he has been carrying on in New York with at least one woman and that his relationship with Helen is very, very strained. We learn Helen has been sharing a bed with the widow next door. I don't go into any details with either affair -- these extra marital and same sex situations are just there, in the background, referenced and then I move on. They are supported by sociological survey evidence of the time showing very high incidence of infidelity, prior to wedlock births, and same sex relationships.

Now, in AW, Edmund is off for a year with Colonel Walker Smythe and so he will be dealing with his father. It's going to be interesting and we'll be getting a lot of John to come. So far, he's appeared only be reference and in some really clueless letters. He will appear in person soon.
