"in a pan on the hob" and "don't have pips." Pips I know from Sherlock Holmes (old, Conan Doyle). The hob -- well that's in The Hunger Games. Oh self. I wonder how long "on the hob" has been in used in the UK once people had stoves rather than traditional hearth cooking?
