Safe Harbour (Persuasion, Anne Elliot)

It was comforting, in its own way, to discuss the sea and pour over the details of the Navy List in so open a setting as Uppercross, activities which Anne had illicitly indulged back at Kellynch Hall. The Musgrove were just learning of names (the Asp, the Laconia) that had long been touchstones in her heart. She would not dampen the present party's spirits by speaking of even more obscure, less glamorous, and more dangerous postings she had memorized in the past: it would not do to reveal to an unwilling audience how closely she had followed his career over the years and across the miles, a crew of one with only the most impersonal of printed pages for a guide.
