Most branches of white magic are about healing, curing, and sustaining life, keeping things going for longer and better. And every time he's had to use one of the Life spells, he's always assumed the party member in question had been knocked out and it was just giving him a little more energy to wake up with.

Watching the crushed and gnawed bodies of the other Light Warriors repair themselves as he chanted the advanced version of the Life magic, though, made it abundantly clear that whatever else he had believed about white magic before this, it couldn't possibly all come from holy sources.
