"But... how did you know?"

Link shrugged, fingers flying even as they looked at the horizon, "I dunno. A familiar 'oh shit thats my kid sister' feeling?"

Zelda laughed, then bumped them with her shoulder. It should be illegal for her to be taller while also younger, Link thought.

"Be serious!"

"I am!" Link signed back aggressively, "When I heard your voice to 'wake up, wake up', I felt like, augh, ten more minutes."

She laughed even harder at the grumpy sleepy face they pulled. "I'm glad you remembered something."

"Oh, definitely, frog eating is Very Important you know." Link winked at her.

"Hey! I didn't expect you to actually do it!"

"Coward." Link retorted immediately, "You should never underestimate the dumb shit I do since the day we met."

Zelda scoffed fondly. "Oh yes, I was so sure the latest in my string of babysitters would be a nice young gentleman I wanted to tease you a bit, but clearly I should have just known that the vaunted Champion would take any foolhardy task as a dare."

"What else would you call killing Calamity Ganon but a really stupid idea?"

"Not when you have the Master Sword! ...Link? Link? What's with that look."

"Okay so I might have used. Something else. At first."

"....I couldn't see that part. You have to tell me right now."

"Yknow how cuccos can get really flock aggressive."

"Oh - oh Farore give my strength. Why."

"Hey, it's better than my first idea! I wanted to see if I could kill him with a mop."

"......"

"It was a really nice mop."

"Link"

"Should I have started with a Lynel blade?"

"A Lynel - those weapons are bigger than you are!"

"I'm short! Everything's bigger than I am!"

Later, Zelda settled into the bedroll Link prepared for her that night. In the morning the two would continue to journey to Kakariko to celebrate and later figure out what to do with the newly reclaimed Hyrule. Nearby, Link's two horses were chuffing at each other; Fucko and Kissybaby had an easy ride tomorrow. Link was already snoring lightly, replete with the massive dinner they had made. Really, who ate a whole fowl? Raw?? Zelda insisted on them eating it cooked, no arguing.

There were many, many things she was worried about, many more things she mourned, Link prominent among them. Still, as she looked at the stars, she thought back to just how easy it was to slip back into the fun and irreverent conversations she remembered. Link wasn't the same, no, the Link from a century ago was as gone as any rainbow, but the new Link was still kind of the person she would gladly make her sibling a second time.

With that comfortable thought to warm her through her worries, Zelda turned over and drifted off.
